Last week was busy on the golf course at Exeter Golf & Country Club.

Monday

The first Bank Holiday Stableford took place this past Monday with 99 players battling the course to try and trim their handicap.  Winner of the event was Lauren Pearce with a stunning 40 points playing off a handicap of 3.  Category 1 golfers, Scott Collins and Jack Pope came second and third with 39 points beating Aaron Lee and Neil Woolfrey with better back 9s

Wednesday

As the season is now in full swing, the first Wednesday stableford was also played last week.  George Robinson found some great form shooting a 2 under par gross 67 to tally 43 points.  On a day of low scoring, 3 other players also achieved 40 points or more.  Aaron Lee scored 42 points, and both John Spiller and David Clark had 40 points.  5 players had their handicaps ‘chopped’ even with the CSS reducing to 69

Friday

The Seniors Emerton Court team played the home leg of their first match in the second round against Downes Crediton on Friday.  A comprehensive 5-0 home victory leaves the team well placed to progress to the third round with the away leg scheduled to be played at Crediton on Wednesday 28 May with a midday start

Saturday

The first golfing ‘major’ of the year has been completed.  With the course in stunning condition, the early starters certainly had the best of the weather.  A blustery wind and showers made scoring difficult but as always, a few will beat the conditions.  Josh Money was the overall winner with a gross 69, nett 66.  This beat Stephen Gillard on the back 9.  Very few players broke par so the CSS went up by 2 shots to 72.

See below for the divisional winners table.

Sunday

The annual mixed Texas scramble with East Devon Golf Club took place in between sunshine and heavy showers.  This didn’t dampen the spirit of the players.

Eighteen teams of four took part with the results as follows: 1 Anne Norman, Paul Jordan, Duncan Goldsworthy, Jo Goldsworthy  61, 2 Elizabeth White, James Norton, Michael Knapton, Linda Knapton   62.4, 3 Roger Worthington, Vivienne Worthington, Angela Ward, Keith Ward 63.2.

The Men's Parker Trophy (Scratch Foursomes) played on against Fingle glen at Tiverton.  Unfortunately, the team lost 2 matches to 1.
