Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

Steenson insists mood at Sandy Park remains positive

Gareth Steenson insists the hard work has already started as Exeter Chiefs quickly look to banish the disappointment of Friday's Aviva Premiership defeat to lowly Sale Sharks.

Seemingly in control at 16-5 up early in the second half thanks to 11 points from Steenson and a try from Fijian newcomer Watisoni Votu, the Chiefs then appeared to implode as they allowed the Sharks to fight their way back into the contest, eventually undoing their Devon rivals 21-16 to claim only their third top flight win of the season.

It was indeed a disappointing outcome for Rob Baxter's side,...

Guillem Bauza, Exeter's One Game One Community ambassador has welcomed the initiative. "I am very happy to support Exeter City...

University of Exeter just miss out against Okehampton Argyle

University of Exeter 2 - 3 Okehampton Argyle.

The Students put up a tough fight but failed to match Okehampton's three in an energetic match between two close rivals of the South West Peninsular Division One.

University of Exeter missed several opportunities to take the lead in a fairly even start, but it was Argyle who struck first with a strong header from a corner after quarter of an hour played. Their lead lasted just four minutes though, as a fantastic looping shot from outside the box put the home side on level terms temporarily.

This was until an equally...

Chiefs suffer second half Shark attack away from home

Exeter Chiefs were the victims of a second half Shark attack as Mark Cueto’s record-breaking try helped to re-ignite Sale’s fight for survival in the Aviva Premiership (Sharks 21 - Chiefs 16).

The England international has for years been regarded as one of Sale’s favourite rugby sons. However, tonight he wrote his name not only into club folklore, but also the history of the top flight as his 76th touchdown took him to the top of the tree.

Already level on 75 tries with Steve Hanley – another of Sale’s all-time deadly finishers – the 33-year-old’s decisive score not only...
