Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

Chiefs need to get back on track says Whitten

Irishman Ian Whitten insists Exeter Chiefs can ill afford another slow start when they play host to London Wasps in their first Aviva Premiership home game of the season on Saturday (3pm). With hopes high in the Devon camp ahead of their opening day trip to Northampton, the Chiefs were swept aside by the Saints during a powerful first half display that saw Jim Mallinder's men race into a 31-6 half time lead. Although the visitors improved significantly during the second half, eventually losing the game 38-11, the damage had already been done and Whitten is adamant there can be no repeat...

Exeter City under 18's fight back against Man City

Exeter City’s under-18 side came from two goals down to earn an excellent 2-2 draw against their counterparts from Man City.

548 fans were in St James Park to witness a great fightback and a thoroughly entertaining spectacle, which will have alerted many to the talent in the City Academy.

The visitors were a goal up at the interval as Connor Riley-Lowe was unlucky to deflect a corner into his own net. Dom McHale doubled the lead in the second half with a neat finish from a tight angle.

But two goals within a minute from Charlie Madden and Joe Charles put the...

FIFA World Cup 2014 Qualifier, Tuesday 10 September 2013, Olympic Stadium, Kiev

England's World Cup destiny remains in their own hands after a somewhat drab goaless affair in Kiev.

With England one point clear at the top of group H, victory in their remaining home games against Montenegro and Poland on 11 and 15 October respectively, would see them qualify for Brazil 2014 as group winners.

With few chances for either side, a 0-0 scoreline seemed a fair outcome. England offered little in the way of attacking flair - an early...

U18 manager previews Man City friendly

If there’s a few people there watching, they get to see the next crop that might be coming through the Academy to be playing for the first team." Lee Skyrme

The Grecians’ new under-18 coach Lee Skyrme is hoping for a healthy turnout of City supporters for Tuesday evening’s prestigious friendly against Manchester City at St James Park.

As well as giving the players some necessary experience of playing in front of a larger crowd than a normal Youth Alliance fixture, it also offers fans a chance to see some of the uncut diamonds...

Chiefs skipper disappointed with loss

by Mark Stevens

New skipper Dean Mumm bemoaned a poor first half showing as Exeter Chiefs kicked off the new Aviva Premiership season with a disappointing 38-11 defeat at Northampton Saints.

In a one-sided first 40 minutes at Franklin's Gardens, the impressive Saints ran riot as they claimed a try bonus point inside 36 minutes thanks to touchdowns from Dylan Hartley, Tom Wood, Ken Pisi and George Pisi.

Although the Chiefs improved greatly after the break - claiming a try through Mumm himself - the home side had the final word when replacement Samu Manoa crossed from...

Chiefs beaten by an impressive Northampton Saints side

Saints 38 - Chiefs 11

Report by Mark Stevens

Exeter’s wait for a first-ever win at Franklin’s Gardens will continue for another year at least as the Chiefs were swot to one side by an impressive Northampton Saints side.

Jim Mallinder’s hosts ran in five tries – four of them in the first half – through Dylan Hartley, Ken Pisi, Tom Wood, George Pisi and Samu Manoa, whilst fly-half Stephen Myler added a further 13 points with a faultless display with the boot. It was simply too much for the Chiefs who, despite a much-improved second half showing, could only counter...

Report: Dag & Red 1 Exeter City 1

Exeter City and Dagenham & Redbridge played out a 1-1 draw at Victoria Road, in a tempestuous game in the capital.

The breakthrough came midway into the first half for the Daggers, as Josh Scott profited from a breakdown in communication amongst the City rearguard and put the ball into an empty net.

Dagenham spurned opportunities to put daylight between the teams in the first half, and so Sam Parkin’s superb header in a much-improved second period brought the scores level to send the Grecians back to Devon with a point....

Chiefs side to face Northampton Saints

After weeks of detailed preparation, the waiting is finally over and the time has come for Exeter Chiefs to once again venture into the heat of battle in the Aviva Premiership. First up for Rob Baxter's Class of 2013/14 is a daunting opening test against Northampton Saints at Franklin's Gardens tomorrow (3pm). It is, however, a fixture that is sure to whet the appetite of everyone associated with the Chiefs, who will be looking to claim the scalp of the East Midlanders for the first time on their own patch. In three previous top flight meetings at the Gardens, the best Baxter's side have...
