Another Draw for the Grecians

Report: Burton Albion 1 Exeter City 1 Exeter City and Burton Albion shared the points with a 1-1 draw at the Pirelli Stadium, in an entertaining game on a difficult surface.

Both goals came within a three-minute period in the second half – and the opener came in familiar fashion for both teams. Burton, who had turned in two own-goals the previous weekend, did the same again as Ian Sharps put the ball into his own net after stopper Dean Lyness failed to hold a rocketed effort by John O’Flynn. It was the third time in four games that City had gone ahead courtesy of an opponent...

Exeter Chiefs wing Jack Nowell is set to debut for England on Saturday in the opening game of the RBS Six Nations.

The 20-year-old has already established himself as a regular starter for the Chiefs in premiership games and has been described as a ‘natural ruby player’ by head coach Rob Baxter.

Some commentators have claimed that the choice of Nowell in a new backline with only a combined total of only 91 caps by England’s head coach Stuart Lancaster is a risky proposition.

Rob Baxter has attempted to calm fears around Nowell’s inexperience, he said: “He certainly...

Exeter City v Oxford match report

Report: Exeter City 0 Oxford Utd 0

For the second time this season, Exeter City and Oxford United played out a goalless stalemate as defences came out on top in a 0-0 at St James Park.

Chances came and went at both ends – no better than a late header from Danny Coles in front of the Big Bank which was unfathomably saved – but neither team could burst the net.

For City, it was a much-needed clean-sheet but disappointingly it ended all-square with some inspirational goalkeeping from Ryan Clarke and some wayward shooting.

The big news for the Grecians ahead of...

Exeter City stumble against AFC Wimbledon

Report: AFC Wimbledon 2 Exeter City 1

Exeter City were defeated 2-1 at the hands of AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow in an entertaining but ultimately disappointing fixture.

The frustration was compounded because City had taken an early lead through a Jack Midson own-goal, heading Matt Grimes’ corner into his own net.

But Luke Moore levelled the game before the interval from close range, before Dons striker Midson earned his redemption by turning in a low cross 15 minutes from time as the turnaround was completed.

Added to the result, the sight of Grimes having...
