Devon triumph over Cornwall in inter-county football

Devon took home the honours in a thrilling football match with Cornwall at the Stephens Scown Inter-County Shield. In a reversal of the 2013 result, the Devon team won 5-4.

The annual match, which is organised by leading South West law firm Stephens Scown LLP, took place at Launceston FC on Friday, 9 May. New facility to revolutionise University golf programme

Golf in the South West has received a boost this month as Exeter golfers past and present celebrated the official opening of the Vic Ambler Golf Centre on 15 May.

The event, at the University’s Streatham campus officially unveiled the new, purpose-built, short-game practice area at the Sports Park which will offer golfers from across the region the latest golf green technology.

Exeter Foundation Awards honour top sports performers

Devon sports achievers were honoured at the Exeter Foundation Devon Sports Awards, in association with Active Devon on Friday night.

They included sportsmen and women, clubs, coaches and volunteers from all four corners of the county.

The event was hosted at Sandy Park, the home of LV= Cup winning Premiership rugby team the Exeter Chiefs.

The competition was open to those involved in sport throughout Devon and, unlike similar awards, all the profits will be donated to charity.

In what has certainly been a year to remember for Henry Slade, the Exeter Chiefs young gun insists his key aim moving forward is to just "keep his head down".

During a terrific 12 months for the 21-year-old playmaker, not only has Slade helped England Under-20s to lift the Junior World Championship for the first time, but he has helped the Chiefs to secure their first-ever major trophy; featured regularly in both the Aviva Premiership and Heineken Cup; as well as getting senior international action with the England Saxons.

England flanker Matt Kvesic and Exeter Chiefs rising star Henry Slade helped host a series of O2 Touch sessions for local students at the Univeristy of Exeter yesterday (15 May).

Chiefs open talks with Jack Nowell

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter is hopeful of sorting out the future of England international Jack Nowell within the next few weeks. Baxter has already opened talks with the talented 21-year-old over a new deal to keep him at Sandy Park.
