From St James Park to the Euros: Tracking Exeter City Academy Players on the International Stage

As Europe’s biggest stars regroup for international duty, national team rosters for Euro 2024 are filled with familiar names - few of which trace their beginnings to the lower tiers of English football.

Exeter City’s academy may not make headlines, but its graduates are making tournament squads. And while attention builds toward summer fixtures and early Champions League predictions on many of the most popular and secure betting platforms, another narrative deserves recognition: players who started at St James Park and are now representing their countries on the international...

Chiefs lose match by just ONE point

Exeter Chiefs 13 Gloucester 14

Often the scourge of Gloucester in previous top flight battles, the deadly right boot of Exeter Chiefs marksman Gareth Steenson was this time unable to land his side a telling blow against their Aviva Premiership rivals.

Handed the shot with the clock up, the Irishman’s last-gasp conversion drifted wide of the target and gave the visiting Cherry & Whites only their second-ever victory at Sandy Park.

In a pulsating conclusion to the contest, Gloucester saw both Sila Puafisi and Sione Kalamafoni dispatched to the sin-bin as they look...

Exeter City fall short at home

Report: Exeter City 0 Accrington 1

Exeter City’s fell to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Accrington Stanley at St James Park.

A fairly open first half saw Danny Coles and Stanley’s James Gray produced efforts on target, but it was the away side that took the lead in stoppage time – Kayode Odejayi taking the plaudits after forcing the ball cross the line at the end of a goalmouth scramble.

Try as they might the Grecians couldn’t find a route back into the game in the second half; James Beattie’s side leaving with a vital three points in their quest to avoid the...

Chiefs side to face Gloucester

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter insists it's got to the stage of the season where nothing less than wins do for his side in their quest to reach the top six of the Aviva Premiership.

A hefty 45-15 loss at Leicester Tigers last Sunday has left Devon's finest with plenty to do between now and the end of the season, especially if they want to be part of the new-look top tier of European rugby.

After the euphoria of lifting the LV= Cup on their own turf a fortnight ago, the Chiefs were brought crashing back to down to earth with a bang by the Tigers at Welford Road. The ten...

Damian Welch says it’s vital he and his Exeter Chiefs team-mates are “on their game” when they play host to Gloucester in the Aviva Premiership tomorrow (3pm).

A week after the Chiefs were mauled 45-15 by the Leicester Tigers in their own Welford Road den, Rob Baxter’s side not only need to address issues from that setback, but at the same time rediscover their winning formula as the season heads towards the finishing line.

With the make-up of next season’s European competition becoming a little clearer for clubs and supporters alike, Devon’s finest know they need to...

Gow to stay at Rovers, will Richards be staying at City?

It was confirmed on the 8th February that Bristol Rovers had signed City's top scorer Alan Gow on loan for the rest of the season, in a loan swap deal that saw 22-year-old Eliot Richards switching the other way. At the time there was speculation that this was down to Exeter City's finances and that they couldn't afford to keep Gow, so they had to settle for the young Richards.

Both players contracts are up at the end of the season and the latest news from Bristol, despite the fact the Scot is now out injured until the end of the season, is that John Ward wants to...

Exeter Chiefs forward Chris Whitehead has spoken of his disappointment after it was confirmed this week that he will have to retire from professional rugby with immediate effect.

Part of the club's LV= Cup winning side of a fortnight ago, the 27-year-old hooker has heeded the words of top specialists regarding his degenerative neck problem and called time on his four-season spell at Sandy Park.

It's indeed a cruel and untimely blow for Whitehead, who has proved a popular figure on and off the field at the Chiefs.

Signed by head coach Rob Baxter during the summer of...

Paul Tisdale’s men showed great character to turn it around, sending the elated travelling supporters home happy.
