From St James Park to the Euros: Tracking Exeter City Academy Players on the International Stage

As Europe’s biggest stars regroup for international duty, national team rosters for Euro 2024 are filled with familiar names - few of which trace their beginnings to the lower tiers of English football.

Exeter City’s academy may not make headlines, but its graduates are making tournament squads. And while attention builds toward summer fixtures and early Champions League predictions on many of the most popular and secure betting platforms, another narrative deserves recognition: players who started at St James Park and are now representing their countries on the international...

New role for Fijian powerhouse Naqelevuki

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter will use pre-season as a chance to experiment a new role for imposing Fijian Sireli Naqelevuki.

Having been sidelined for much of last season with a troublesome knee complaint, Baxter is looking at switching the 33-year-old into the forwards this season to help utilise his considerable frame.

The former Stormers star - who is set to begin his fifth season at Sandy Park - initially arrived as a winger, making his debut in Exeter's maiden season in the Aviva Premiership in an away game at Northampton Saints.

Over time, however,...

Chiefs celebrate 20 years with SW Comms

Exeter Chiefs is celebrating 20 years of support from the same sponsor by sporting a new logo on the first team’s playing shirt and training kit.

Especially designed by JJC Design, the new logo marks South West Communications Group’s long-term sponsorship deal with the Aviva Premiership club.

Chiefs start to crank things up

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter insists things are starting to "crank up" in terms of squad preparation ahead of the new 2014/15 season.

Baxter welcomed his players back into their latest phase of pre-season on Monday having giving them all a week's rest following a physically demanding opening block of training.

Now with friendlies against Cardiff Blues, Ulster and Worcester Warriors looming large on the horizon, Exeter's leader has been overseeing the next phase which, he says, sees a step up in standards.

“We’ve done a live bit of contact this week. Although...

Grecians start new campaign on Saturday

The Grecians will begin their League Two campaign this coming Saturday at 3pm as they welcome Portsmouth to St James' Park.

Paul Tisdale, who is the second longest serving manager in current English football, only behind Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger, having been at Exeter for over eight years, will lock horns with newly appointed Portsmouth manager Andy Awford, who joined the club in early May after the club decided to sack Richie Barker.

The last time these two met was in February earlier this year; which saw them battle out a 1-1 draw at St James Park. A 90+4 minute...

Exeter Chiefs Season Launch

The annual season launch of the Exeter Chiefs is taking place this weekend, on Saturday 9 August.

The fun filled event will run between 10am and 1pm and will be held in Bedford Square.

This is a chance for supporters to meet the players and coaching staff before the season kicks off in early September.

Due to a major redevelopment at Sandy Park this summer, the Chiefs won’t host a pre-season game, and their first home match isn’t until 13th September when they will welcome the Leicester Tigers.

This event allows the supporters to learn more about the clubs...

Botha is relishing his chance at the Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs newcomer Chrysander Botha said the chance of testing himself both in the Aviva Premiership and European Rugby was an opportunity he simply could not turn down.

The Namibian international is just days into a two-year deal with the Chiefs, but already the 26-year-old admits he is settling in well to his new Westcountry surroundings.

Botha was head coach Rob Baxter’s eighth summer signing having just jetted in from South African Super Rugby franchise, the Lions, and will offer yet another attacking option to the Chiefs back three this term.

For Botha,...

Grecians defeated by Swansea City

Exeter City succumbed to a 2-0 friendly defeat at St James Park against Premier League opposition in the shape of Swansea City.

City’s creative power certainly tested Swansea’s defence, but ultimately quality prevailed in the scoreline.

Goals either side of the break by Bafetimbi Gomis and Josh Sheehan were enough for the visitors to seal a pre-season win at the Park, although David Wheeler hit the bar in the first half too.

Under-18 midfielder Alex Byrne was again named in the squad, as he took a seat on the bench next to trialist Christian Ribeiro.
