From St James Park to the Euros: Tracking Exeter City Academy Players on the International Stage

As Europe’s biggest stars regroup for international duty, national team rosters for Euro 2024 are filled with familiar names - few of which trace their beginnings to the lower tiers of English football.

Exeter City’s academy may not make headlines, but its graduates are making tournament squads. And while attention builds toward summer fixtures and early Champions League predictions on many of the most popular and secure betting platforms, another narrative deserves recognition: players who started at St James Park and are now representing their countries on the international...

Exeter teams in battle for British titles

Exeter is sending a strong message to this year’s Butcombe British Skittles Championships. No less than seven teams are through to the grand finals in Torquay on Saturday (Sept 20).

St Thomas Social Club is fielding five of the qualifiers, including the Allstars who have qualified for the fifth year running in the mens’ competition, along with the Saints who were knocked out in the second round last year.

Team secretary Dave Rowe said Saints’ confidence had been massively boosted by a win against the Mixers from Torbay, men’s champions four years ago and runners up in...

Sun shines for exciting Newton Abbot fixture

Ainsi Fideles stamped himself as an up-and-coming chaser for the future when beating the older and more experienced Lamb Or Cod to land the £11,000 North Devon Hospice Novices’ Chase at Newton Abbot on Monday 8th September.

The four-year-old Ainsi Fideles had shown real promise for trainer David Pipe, winning his last three races and earning a handicap mark of 145, just above that of his rival. He confirmed that good impression when taking the lead at the eighth fence and drawing right away from Lamb Or Cod for an easy 25 lengths win, with the other two runners even more strung out...

Golf Club members train for triathlon

On 28th September 2014, men and women from around the South West will gather in one of Devon's most popular tourist resorts to take part in the Dawlish Triathlon. Consisting of a 750m swim, 21km bike ride and a 5km run, participants will push themselves to the limit of their physical and mental capabilities.

Amongst this group will be Rich and Jemma Marsh and Rob and Charlotte Pascoe, all members of Exeter Golf and Country Club. They are taking part to raise money for Rich and Jemma's 3 year old nephew, Henry and have embarked on a tough training programme at Exeter Golf...

Chiefs on the Tigers' tail

Not for the first time in their illustrious history, Leicester Tigers played the role of ‘party poopers’ as they came from behind to sink hosts Exeter Chiefs.

As Devon’s finest opened their doors for the first time since the multi-million pound redevelopment of Sandy Park this summer, it was the boot of England international Freddie Burns that ultimately guided his side to success in Devon.

The summer signing from Gloucester has wasted little time in settling into his new surroundings and his 11-point haul, together with tries from Anthony Allen and Ben Youngs, plus a late...

Exeter City still looking for a win

Match report: Exeter City 1 Oxford 1

Exeter City’s search for a first win of the season continues as they were held to a 1-1 draw at St James Park by Oxford United.

The Grecians got off to the best possible start when Graham Cummins won and converted a penalty in the first few minutes, but the U’s hit back through Callum O’Dowda, who put Joe Riley’s cross beyond stopper Christy Pym.

Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale made one change to the side which were beaten 2-1 by Mansfield Town at St James Park last time out, as Matt Grimes came into the starting eleven in place...

Crowds large and small cheer on the tour

Crowds large and small came out across Devon today (Thursday 11 September) as the Friends Life Tour of Britain raced through the county.

Stage Five of this year’s Tour, hosted by Devon County Council, was the eighth consecutive year that Britain’s biggest cycling race had visited the county. The Stage started in Exmouth on East Devon’s Jurassic Coast with a welcome from the fans as warm as the weather.

A huge crowd greeted the riders when they arrived in Exeter but along the route villagers (such as those pictured above in Bow) also lined the route.

Visitors,...

Former Tiger Waldrom is ready to roar

Exeter Chiefs newcomer Thomas Waldrom says the Devon club can ill afford to take a backward step when they lock horns with his former club Leicester Tigers this Saturday at Sandy Park (3.15pm). Having departed the East Midlands this summer for a new start in the Westcountry, the experienced No.8 wasted little time in making his mark for Rob Baxter's side, scoring two tries on his league debut in Exeter's 52-0 thumping of newly-promoted London Welsh. It was a dream start not only for Waldrom and the Chiefs, but the England international knows a much stiffer test awaits his new club when the...

Bob delighted to be a head Chief!

Bob Staddon says it’s a “huge honour” to have been asked to become the new president of Exeter Rugby Club. The long-serving club stalwart, who first represented Exeter’s first team during the 1964-65, has taken on the role from another former player, Dick Manley, who has decided to step down following a 15-year tenure in the post. Bob is no stranger to supporters of the club as not only did he represent the club playing wise until 1981, but since then he has occupied various roles such as Director of Rugby, Coach and Trustee. “I was somewhat shocked when I first got asked,” said Bob. “For...

Exmouth Town stroll to midweek victory

Exmouth stretched their unbeaten league run to six games with a 3-0 thrashing of Stoke Gabriel on Wednesday evening.

The Southern Road side dominated throughout and had sufficient chances to score at least half a dozen, as well as keeping their third clean sheet on the bounce.

It took just four minutes for the hosts to open the scoring as they controlled the opening exchanges. Shortly after a couple of Dan Boere blasts were saved well by the Railwaymen’s keeper, who then gifted a chance to Alex Greening but his shot again could not beat the stranded goalie.
