Lavelle’s Silver Thorn too strong in Exeter feature

The Emma Lavelle-trained Silver Thorn won the feature Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase, making virtually all the running to score by two lengths from co-favourite El Granjero at Exeter yesterday, where the sun shone on a beautiful day at Haldon Hill.

The grey had won his previous start at Doncaster in December, with his trainer reporting that he was progressing well. Lavelle said: “He’s still learning and he only ever really does as much as he needs to, which is great as he’ll keep improving. We’re very pleased with how he’s handled the ground today, which means he’ll go on...

Chiefs look to power on, says Dollman

Phil Dollman insists he and his Exeter Chiefs team-mates can ill afford to take their foot of the pedal as they look to push for honours over the final weeks of the season.

Having narrowly missed out on retaining their LV= Cup crown last month, Rob Baxter's side are still pushing hard on two other fronts with the Devon club currently occupying one of the four play-off spots in the Aviva Premiership, as well as having booked a first-ever European semi-final against Gloucester this Saturday (7:45pm).

For Dollman - one of a number of Chiefs who have been part of the club since...

Chiefs move back into top four

Match report: Exeter Chiefs 21 Northampton Saints 10

Exeter Chiefs underlined their Aviva Premiership play-off credentials with aplomb as they saw off visiting Northampton Saints at a packed Sandy Park.

A dominant set-piece, allied with razor-sharp attacking play and some defiant defensive work, ensured Rob Baxter’s side became the first side this season to complete the double over Jim Mallinder’s visitors.

Having won at Franklin’s Gardens back in November, the Chiefs produced arguably an even greater display in this latest outing to propel themselves back into the...

Exeter City's unbeaten run ends at 8

Match report: Shrewsbury 4 Exeter City 0

Exeter City’s eight-game unbeaten run came to an end at Greenhous Meadow at the hands of a rampant Shrewsbury Town side, who won 4-0 to keep pressure on leaders Burton Albion at the summit of Sky Bet League 2.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro had the home side in the ascendency at half-time, and his second was Shrewsbury’s third after James Collins had doubled the lead.

Then sub Tyrone Barnett hammered in a thunderous effort from just inside the area to seal the win in stoppage time.

The pre-match team news saw Scot Bennett...

Chiefs side to face Northampton

Rob Baxter wants his Exeter Chiefs side to reinforce their “traditional qualities” as they look to become the first side this season to do the double over reigning Aviva Premiership champions Northampton Saints.

The Chiefs remain the only club to have toppled the league leaders on home soil this season, emerging victorious from their clash back in November, and the two sides will lock horns again this Sunday at a sold-out Sandy Park (2pm).

With the Saints currently riding high at the summit, ten points clear of next best Saracens, the Chiefs know it will be their toughest...

Posted: Fri, 04/10/2015 - 11:06am

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter says it’s unlikely Scottish international Moray Low will play for the club again this season.

The 30-year-old tight-head was forced off during last weekend’s European Challenge Cup victory over Newcastle Falcons at Sandy Park with a a hamstring injury.

Scans this week have since revealed that Low - who was signed from Glasgow Warriors last summer - has caused significant damage and will now sit out the remaining weeks of the campaign.

It’s an untimely blow for Baxter, whose side this weekend play host to league leaders Northampton...

Hooley 'a great fit' says Baxter

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes new signing Will Hooley is a “great fit” for his side after he today sealed a move from Aviva Premiership counterparts Northampton Saints.

The 21-year-old fly-half is the latest addition in what is proving a busy period of squad strengthening from Baxter ahead of the 2015/16 season.

Already the Devon club have brought in Geoff Parling, Ollie Woodburn, Michele Campagnaro, Ollie Atkins and Shaun Malton - and Hooley’s arrival will further boost what is looking like another powerful mix at Sandy Park next term.

“Will is a...

Money saving offers at Newton Abbot Racecourse

In a bid to continue its commitment of making a day at the races affordable for all, Newton Abbot Racecourse will welcome back its popular 2-4-1 ticket promotion with a difference this season.

In past years, the racecourse has offered a 2-4-1 promotion on all Monday fixtures. However, with a change in this year’s racing programme, with a fall to just three Monday fixtures and an increase to six evening meetings, the racecourse will instead introduce a 2-4-1 ticket promotion for all evening fixtures.

Racegoers will be able to enjoy two Paddock Enclosure tickets for the price...

Chiefs sign new fly-half

Exeter Chiefs have bolstered their attacking options for next season with the acquisition of young fly-half Will Hooley from Aviva Premiership rivals Northampton Saints.

The 21-year-old playmaker has penned terms on a two-year deal at Sandy Park and will provide top quality competition for the No.10 role alongside current incumbents Gareth Steenson and Henry Slade.

Cambridge-born Hooley arrives at Sandy Park having joined the Saints Academy as a 12-year-old. Since then, he has grown in stature at Franklin’s Gardens and worked his way into Jim Mallinder’s first-team squad,...
