Georgian Youngster Tchumbadze Becomes a Chief

Exeter Chiefs have completed the signing of young Georgian international prop, Bachuki Tchumbadze, ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 23-year-old front rower moves to Devon to play his club rugby outside of his native Georgia for the first time in his career.

“I really enjoy English rugby, and I’m truly honoured to have the opportunity to be a key part of the Exeter Chiefs,” Tchumbadze said.

“I’m well aware of the crucial role that forwards play in the team’s system, and I’m really looking forward to making my debut in the Premiership.”

Exeter Chiefs newcomer Michele Campagnaro will get his first taste of rugby action at Sandy Park when he lines up for Italy in their final Pool D match of this year’s Rugby World Cup against Romania at Sandy Park tomorrow (2:30pm).

Head coach Jacques Brunel has made just two changes to the starting line-up that lost 16-9 to Ireland last Sunday.

After making his comeback from injury in the Ireland match, captain Sergio Parisse drops out of the match-day 23, and is replaced in the back row by Alessandro Zanni.

In the absence of 114-test Parisse, the starting line-up...

Head coach Rob Baxter says he will use tomorrow’s final Westcountry Challenge Cup fixture at Bath as the ideal opportunity to fine tune his Exeter Chiefs squad ahead of the new 2015/16 season.

Having already collected three pre-season wins over Gloucester (home and away) and Bath at home, Baxter knows this latest encounter at the Recreation Ground (5.45pm) offers the final chance for his players to stake their claims ahead of the big kick-off.

With Bath also providing the opposition for Exeter’s opening Aviva Premiership game of the season next week, some may feel neither...

Ben Moon says he can feel a mood change with the Exeter Chiefs camp as the start of the new Aviva Premiership season draws ever closer.

Rob Baxter’s side wrap up their pre-season campaign this weekend with the final instalment of this year’s Westcountry Challenge Cup – a competition the Devon club have already secured with a game to spare.

Last weekend’s narrow 31-33 victory over Gloucester ensured the Chiefs made it three wins from three in pre-season, having already seen off the Cherry and Whites and Bath on home soil in recent weeks.

This Saturday, Moon will be...

Rugby World Cup: Namibia 16 Georgia 17

It was an historic night for Georgia, who almost certainly secured their qualification for Rugby World Cup 2019 by doing enough yesterday at Sandy Park to finish third in Pool C, but it was by no means a straightforward victory as Namibia fought them all the way in a match that eventually came down to a one-point margin and included four yellow cards.

Prince Harry was at Sandy Park to see a contest that defied all predictions as Georgia dominated every statistic but for large portions of the match were unable to convert them into points.

Yeandle named new Chiefs club captain

Jack Yeandle has been named as Exeter Chiefs club captain for the 2015/16 season.

Rob Baxter revealed his choice on Wednesday after telling the players of his decision earlier that morning ahead of Saturday's Westcountry Challenge Cup match at Bath.

It brings to an end a question which has been swirling around Sandy Park throughout the summer following Dean Mumm's departure to Australia.

Hooker Yeandle, 25, captained the side at the start of the 2014/15 campaign after Mumm was ruled out following shoulder surgery, and Baxter confirmed that his success during that...

Exeter Racecourse: Preview of tomorrow's runners

Exeter’s new season begins tomorrow (Oct 8) with the first of six races off at 2.25pm. Heavy showers at the beginning of the week mean the going is good, good to soft in places, resulting in a strong card of runners.

The feature race of the day is the Great Point Media Investments Handicap Chase, run over three miles. Seven runners go to post with the Lawney Hill-trained King Fountaine likely to start the favourite. However, his win at Plumpton just under three weeks ago, has put him up eight pounds in the handicap and the Grant Cann-trained I’m In Charge will be a popular...

All eyes will be on Exeter today as Prince Harry is set to attend the Rugby World Cup Pool C match between Georgia and Namibia at Sandy Park (kick off 8pm).

This is the first time the honorary president of the Rugby World Cup has watched a match which doesn't involve England in this year's tournament.

During his visit the prince will also meet a group of young people who have benefited from the local Rugby Empowering Employment programme, which helps 16 to 24 year olds who have had problems finding work.

If you didn’t manage to get ticket for the match, the Exeter...

Slade out to make up for lost time

Exeter Chiefs back Henry Slade had admitted his wait for an appearance during England’s disappointing Rugby World Cup campaign has been ‘frustrating’.

However, the 22-year-old playmaker will make his World Cup bow at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday night in England’s final match of the tournament against Uruguay.

Club-mates Jack Nowell, another who has yet to feature for Stuart Lancaster’s side during the tournament, and Geoff Parling will also start the match, and Slade – who has been named at outside centre – says he is keen to make up for lost time.
