Exeter Racecourse has launched a brand-new Community Raceday and is inviting people across Devon to nominate a community hero who deserves recognition.

Community Raceday takes place on Friday, February 20, during half term, and coincides with Devon Day at the racecourse. The initiative celebrates the people who make a real difference in their communities – from volunteers and carers to sports coaches, fundraisers and quiet grafters who go above and beyond.

Every nominee will receive a free ticket to Exeter Racecourse, and one overall winner will be treated to a Family...

Hunter pleased with Chiefs' composure

Exeter Chiefs forwards coach Rob Hunter praised his side’s composure as they finally swot aside the attentions of visiting Newcastle Falcons in the Aviva Premiership.

For at least an hour at Sandy Park, the lowly visitors were happy to match the Chiefs blow for blow as they cancelled out tries from Thomas Waldrom and Phil Dollman with converted scores of their own through Sonatane Takulua and Nili Latu.

This wasn’t the vintage, high-octane rugby we’ve seen at other times this season from Exeter Chiefs, but nevertheless the five precious points Rob Baxter’s side picked up were celebrated just as much, if not better.

Devon’s finest ground out their 11th league win of the season against a gutsy Newcastle Falcons outfit who, for at least an hour at Sandy Park, matched their higher-placed rivals toe-to-toe.

In the end, the Chiefs had just too much in their attacking arsenal for Dean Richards’ side and netted another maximum haul courtesy of Elvis Taione’s late score.

Exeter City draw after lengthy delay

EXETER CITY were pegged-back twice by Carlisle United during an eventful 2-2 draw at St James Park.

Loanee striker Jayden Stockley had given City an early lead in the seventh minute, before the Grecians’ early momentum was disrupted as a fire-scare in the Stagecoach Stand saw the game suspended for just over an hour. Charlie Wyke then levelled for the Cumbrians just after the half-hour mark, before David Wheeler’s goal with eleven minutes remaining was cancelled out by Hallam Hope.

Evacuation at Exeter City after smoke grenade set off

A stand was evacuated at Exeter City after reports of a fire.

The old Stagecoach stand was at the centre of the drama.

At first it was reported as a fire drill.

However, it has since emerged that a smoke grenade caused the alert.

The game, against Carlisle United, was halted for more than an hour.

It ended 2-2.

The club said police made an arrest at the stadium and have taken the suspect into custody.

Charities in Exeter have received a cash windfall thanks to the sale of dressing items from the Rugby World Cup 2015.

A total of £1,765 was raised through the sale of Rugby World Cup 2015 City Dressing items such as banners and bunting used to promote the Tournament in Exeter. Pin badges, lanyards, mini balls and other accessories were also auctioned to raise money, all donated by England 2015, the Tournament organiser.
