From St James Park to the Euros: Tracking Exeter City Academy Players on the International Stage

As Europe’s biggest stars regroup for international duty, national team rosters for Euro 2024 are filled with familiar names - few of which trace their beginnings to the lower tiers of English football.

Exeter City’s academy may not make headlines, but its graduates are making tournament squads. And while attention builds toward summer fixtures and early Champions League predictions on many of the most popular and secure betting platforms, another narrative deserves recognition: players who started at St James Park and are now representing their countries on the international...

Exeter City Swimming Club had a hugely successful South West Regional event this year with more of its swimmers than ever achieving the qualifying times required to enter. In total 43 swimmers qualified with 39 swimmers taking part in 182 individual races, with 47 finals being swum and a total of 20 medals achieved. All those that took part either beat their entry times or confirmed personal best times which is excellent given the hard racing they had taken part in recently.

In the Youth event which attracts swimmers of 15 years and older, Exeter had gold medals from Dominic...

Singing their way to victory

It’s all down to the singing, say Exeter men’s skittles team the Saints who triumphed in an intercounty tournament held in Bude.

Captain Paul Kennard said the Saints are known for their vocal abilities in competition.

‘We are a noisy lot,’ he admitted, ‘we out-sing everyone. Our songs are so catchy that sometimes even our opponents join in with us!’

The strategy clearly worked as the team who play out of St Thomas Social Club in Exeter, beat 24 teams from Wales, London and five counties to pick up the winners’ trophy. They clinched their victory with a final score...

Salvi says Chiefs will emerge stronger after final loss

Julian Salvi admitted the only thing missing from an “amazing” first year with the Exeter Chiefs was failing to pick up the Aviva Premiership title at Twickenham.

Brought to Devon last summer from Leicester Tigers, the Australian open-side has been a near ever-present for Rob Baxter’s side during a stellar campaign, which finished up at the home of English rugby in Saturday’s showpiece event.

Sadly, though, the Chiefs – playing in their first-ever Premiership final – could not cap what has been a year to remember for them as they went down narrowly to defending champions...

In the end it wasn’t quite to be for Exeter Chiefs, but Gareth Steenson insists the club have plenty to proud of following a quite outstanding season.

Undone 28-20 in Saturday’s Aviva Premiership final by Saracens, the dreams of a first-ever top flight title will have to wait for Rob Baxter’s side a little longer.

Trailing 23-6 at the interval, the Devonians produced a rousing second half performance to haul themselves back into contention with just five minutes remaining.

Saracens, however, showed just why they have been the stand-out force, both domestically and...
