From St James Park to the Euros: Tracking Exeter City Academy Players on the International Stage

As Europe’s biggest stars regroup for international duty, national team rosters for Euro 2024 are filled with familiar names - few of which trace their beginnings to the lower tiers of English football.

Exeter City’s academy may not make headlines, but its graduates are making tournament squads. And while attention builds toward summer fixtures and early Champions League predictions on many of the most popular and secure betting platforms, another narrative deserves recognition: players who started at St James Park and are now representing their countries on the international...

New golf course a soaring success

The new ‘Twenty Sixteen’ golf course at Exeter Golf and Country Club is officially a soaring success with the men’s golf section close to being full.

With less than 15 men’s golf memberships now available, the club is bucking the trend with its thriving golf section. The new golf course combined with the arrival of new Head Golf Professional, Darren Everett and his team, has attracted golfers from across the region. Darren is now set to launch a state-of-the-art golf simulator to revolutionise all-weather, year-round golf, coaching and fitting in the region. All this in the year...

The new season begins at Exeter Racecourse on Thursday, October 6, the first of 17 racing fixtures that race through until May, and this year’s curtain raiser is a fundraiser for the charity Hannah’s Willberry Wonder Pony.

The charity was founded by 18-year-old event rider Hannah Francis who passed away in August just 15 months after being diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Osteosarcoma.

A talented horsewoman, in 2015 Hannah had been accepted onto a Rider Development Eventing Pathway camp with the aim of upgrading her mare Mavis to intermediate level. Her...

Research has found that Exeter City football club is languishing at the bottom of the table for hometown fan loyalty, coming in at 80th out of the 92 teams.

Using Google keyword data, Plusnet looked into where in the UK holds the most loyal home town fans by tracking how many supporters searched for their team from the local County.

The data revealed that Exeter City falls down when it comes to home-town searches with only 2.7% of the searches for all clubs in the league being for the local club. In contrast, local rivals Plymouth Argyle fared a lot better coming 19th with...

Spanish dash for Captain Rob

Exeter skittles captain Rob Parkhouse interrupted a Spanish holiday with his wife to make a 24 hour trip back to the UK to play in the finals of the Gasket Guy British Skittles Championships at the weekend.

Rob Parkhouse (pictured above) who captains the Loungers team at The Kings pub, tempted fate by booking a holiday to Majorca, knowing it would clash with the finals of the Gasket Guy British Skittles Championships.

"I suppose I thought we wouldn’t qualify," said Rob, who’s played for the team for thirty years.

"When we got through to the finals I knew I had to...

Chiefs notch up first victory of the season

Luke Cowan-Dickie led the way as Exeter Chiefs recorded their first Aviva Premiership victory of the season against visiting Harlequins.

Having suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Wasps and defending champions Saracens, Rob Baxter’s side rediscovered their winning formula at the third time of asking.

Cornishman Cowan-Dickie (pictured) was the main headliner grabber, claiming a hat-trick of tries and producing an outstanding display that watching England forwards coach, Neal Hatley, will have duly noted with plenty of interest.

The in-form hooker was...

Exeter Skittlers battle for British titles

Exeter will be missing two of its most successful teams in this year’s finals of the annual Gasket Guy British Skittles Championships taking place Saturday (Sept 17).

Mixed team champions Two Tribes will not be there to defend their British title after they failed to qualify in the preliminary rounds of the competition. They lost three of their four matches against the High Flyers of Totnes and One Step Beyond from Weymouth and so ruled themselves out of a never-before-achieved hat trick in the mixed competition.

In the men’s competition however, Two Tribes men’s team from...

Former professional footballer turned campaigner Clarke Carlisle met experts who help to keep people in the South West safe and well at an event held to discuss how they can tackle male suicide and mental health problems.

It is hoped that the event will lead to better mental health support for men in the future.

The meeting, organised by University of Exeter historian Dr Ali Haggett, Active Devon and Exeter City Football in the Community, was designed to encourage charities and others who currently help men to work more closely together and discuss what works. They hope...

Rob Baxter acknowledges the pressure is on his Exeter Chiefs side, but insists it’s the same every week in the Aviva Premiership.

After back-to-back losses against Wasps and Saracens, Baxter’s men find themselves rooted to the foot of the table with just a solitary point to their name.

Tomorrow, however, they have the chance to get their season finally up and running when they welcome Harlequins to Sandy Park (3pm).

Head coach Baxter knows the Londoners will pose another creditable threat to his team, but he wants his troops to rise in battle and replicate the kind...

Dollman absence will open the door for others

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has confirmed Phil Dollman will be sidelined for a number of weeks after it was revealed he broke his hand in last weekend’s Aviva Premiership clash with Saracens.

The 31-year-old full-back sustained the injury during the opening quarter of the game played at Sandy Park.

“The initial prognosis is that he’s going to be out for a little while – he may well require an operation,” said Baxter. “If he does he’ll have that very shortly, and then you’re talking about a six to eight week recovery period.”
