Jack Nowell says there has been little time for him and his Exeter Chiefs team-mates to dwell on the disappointment of last weekend’s European Champions Cup loss at the hands of Bordeaux Begles.

The Chiefs saw their European aspirations suffer more disappointment as they slipped to a third successive defeat in Pool 5, going down 13-7 at Sandy Park to the visiting Frenchmen.

This Saturday the two sides will lock horns in the latest round of action, this time at the Stade Chaban Delmas (2pm), and Nowell insists the Premiership club will be looking to bounce back at the first...

Future visitors to Exeter Cathedral will soon see a symbol of the city’s rugby club adorning part of its façade after a new stone carving was unveiled this week.

In what is an extensive project on the Cathedral’s East Gable, work has been going on for a number of months to address parts of the stonework that need replacing or re-conditioning.

And part of the project has been to replace four corbel stones, all of which are to now have a new look moving forward.

As Clerk of Works Chris Sampson explains: “The project we are currently working on will see us replace...

Rugby honour for Exeter School alumna Kate

Cambridge undergraduate Kate Marks (at Exeter School 2013 - 2015) was selected to play in the 30th Women's Varsity Match at Twickenham on Thursday 8 December, winning her Rugby Blue in her first term as an undergraduate.

This was only the second time that the women's rugby match has been played at the home of England Rugby.

Nineteen-year-old Kate had the great honour of opening the game playing number 10, fly half.

Starting the game at number 10, fly half Kate saw continuous midfield action throughout the match. Her quick responses under pressure and her accurate...

Mixed feelings for Maunder

Exeter Chiefs youngster Jack Maunder admitted to have mixed feelings in the aftermath of his side’s latest European Champions Cup defeat at the hands of Bordeaux Begles.

Scrum-half Maunder claimed his first-ever try in Exeter colours during the first half at Sandy Park, but it proved not enough as the French side hit back in the second period to record a 13-7 victory over Rob Baxter’s side.

The defeat – Exeter’s third in the competition this season – means they remain rooted to the foot of Pool 5 with their European aspirations all but over for another season, despite...

Although not quite floored, Exeter Chiefs were dealt another hefty blow as Bordeaux Begles condemned them to a third successive loss in this season’s European Champions Cup at Sandy Park.

Like a prized fighter, the visiting Frenchmen withstood a heavy first half battering from Rob Baxter’s side before countering to deadly effect in the second period.

Jack Maunder’s maiden Exeter try, converted by skipper Gareth Steenson, helped to give the Chiefs a 7-3 lead at the break.

However, the Aviva Premiership side could not add to their tally after the break as Baptiste...

Chiefs side to face Bordeaux Begles

Nothing less than victory will suffice for Rob Baxter and his Exeter Chiefs side ahead of Sunday’s European Champions Cup clash with Bordeaux Begles at Sandy Park (5:30pm).

Currently bottom of Pool 5 with just a solitary point, the Chiefs need to use the next fortnight to revive life back into their European aspirations following successive defeats to ASM Clermont Auvergne and Ulster Rugby in the opening two rounds.

Standing in their way over the next fortnight will be Raphael Ibanez’s Bordeaux side, a team that faced twice last season in the same competition, and a team...
