Georgian Youngster Tchumbadze Becomes a Chief

Exeter Chiefs have completed the signing of young Georgian international prop, Bachuki Tchumbadze, ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 23-year-old front rower moves to Devon to play his club rugby outside of his native Georgia for the first time in his career.

“I really enjoy English rugby, and I’m truly honoured to have the opportunity to be a key part of the Exeter Chiefs,” Tchumbadze said.

“I’m well aware of the crucial role that forwards play in the team’s system, and I’m really looking forward to making my debut in the Premiership.”

Olympic medallist Heather Fell has fired the starter pistol in the race to compete at the 2017 South West Youth Games.

The former international Modern Pentathlete, who won silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics joined around 50 youngsters at the Teignbridge Hockey Trials at South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton on Tuesday 16 May.

Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale praised his players’ belief after they scored in the fifth minute of injury time to book a place in the play-off final against Blackpool.

The Grecians had been leading 2-0 against Carlisle United in the semi-final at St James Park thanks to a double from Ollie Watkins. However, the Cumbrians – just as they had done in the first leg – battled back to level the tie with goals from Jason Kennedy and John O’Sullivan.

Exeter City midfielder Matt Oakley has announced that he will be retiring at the end of this season.

Matt, who has played nearly 200 games for the club over a five-and-a-half-year spell, began his career at Southampton and made his debut for the Saints towards the end of the 1994/95 season.
