Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

Jack Nowell is back and ‘roaring’ to go ahead of the new season, following his successful tour of New Zealand with the British and Irish Lions – and he’s turning out for a new team!

But worry not Exeter Chiefs fans, for the young star is only making a guest appearance in a select squad put together by club legend Gareth Steenson for his testimonial game.

Jack has volunteered to join his teammate when the match is played on August 12. However, it is not yet clear in what capacity.

Striker Ryan Brunt has put pen to paper on a permanent contract at Exeter City. Brunt, 24, has been training with the Grecians during pre-season and has impressed manager Paul Tisdale enough to earn a contract at the club. Brunt, who started his career off at Stoke City, has not played a competitive match for 16 months having suffered a serious knee injury playing for Plymouth Argyle in a match against Barnet in March 2016. Former Gloucester powerhouse Junior Paramore has said he cannot understand why Exeter Chiefs legend Gareth Steenson hasn’t been picked for his national side.

Exeter Chiefs have bolstered their squad ahead of the new 2017/18 season with the acquisition of powerful South African lock Wilhelm van der Sluys.

Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby honoured by the University of Exeter

Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter has celebrated another high profile achievement – being awarded an honorary degree by the University of Exeter.

Mr Baxter, who helped lead the rugby team to Premiership victory this year, received his doctorate just a day after his son Jack graduated from the University of Exeter with a first-class degree in Law.
