Exeter Chiefs 31 Northampton Saints 30

It was like a Rocky movie, the two prized fighters battled it out until the death, after which the hero rose from the deck in the final round to claim a famous victory.

In this case, it was reigning Aviva Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs who hauled themselves off the deck to claim a first league win of 2018.

With time up on the clock, a converted Thomas Waldrom try floored visiting Northampton Saints, who came within a whisker of inflicting a fourth successive top-flight loss on Rob Baxter’s side.

Instead, the Chiefs are back on top of the table and still on...

City take narrow victory back to Devon

A Jayden Stockley penalty was the difference as Exeter City beat Grimsby Town 1-0 in Sky Bet League Two.

In a tight affair at Blundell Park, the Grecians battled for a narrow victory after being awarded a first half penalty when Jake Taylor was fouled in the Town box which the City number 11 converted well.

The home side had the chance to level from the spot but JJ Hooper was unable to find the target as City capped off a brillant week with two wins away from home.

Chiefs side to face Northampton Saints

Rob Baxter believes tying down the ‘finer details’ in his side’s game plan can lead to Exeter Chiefs returning to winning ways in the Aviva Premiership against visiting Northampton Saints tomorrow (2pm).

Three successive top-flight defeats to Newcastle Falcons, Worcester Warriors and Wasps have seen the reigning champions surrender top spot in the standings to Saracens, but Baxter insists there is no need for panic within the ranks at Sandy Park, particularly as his side are still healthy placed in second to attack the final rounds of the season.”

Grecians win it very late in Cheshire

Exeter City scored two goals in stoppage time to beat Crewe Alexandra 2-1 at the Alexandra Stadium to move back into the play-off places.

In a match with little in it, Crewe thought they had won it on 88 minutes when Shaun Miller turned the ball home.

However, captain, Jordan Moore-Taylor fired in to level things a couple of minutes after the 90 before Jayden Stockley was on hand at the far post to send the travelling City fans home delighted when he headed in.

Devon’s Grand National takes place next Friday when a prize fund of £25,000 will attract some of Britain’s best loved chasers alongside a supporting card tailor made for racing’s rising stars.

The winner of the Higos Insurance Services Handicap Chase will add £15,000 to the pot and it is no surprise to learn that it is ever popular among trainers, keen to give their chasers who might lack for a bit of speed, but who love galloping and jumping, a chance to win a prestigious prize.

With 21 fences to negotiate, and three miles six furlongs to complete, the race requires an...

Wasps 13 Exeter Chiefs 7

You have to go back some three years to note the last time Exeter Chiefs lost three Aviva Premiership fixtures on the bounce. However, Rob Baxter’s side have that statistic looming over their heads after they were undone 13-7 by play-off rivals Wasps at the Ricoh Arena.

Marcus Watson’s first half try - converted by Danny Cipriani - and two second half penalties from Jimmy Gopperth proved enough to down the defending champions in an attritional contest which was more for the purist than that of the masterpiece many had predicted pre-match.

The Chiefs, much improved from that...

EXETER City Football Club said “no to homophobia” at its home game with Mansfield on Saturday, February 17.

The match was designated as the Club’s annual “Football v Homophobia” fixture and a number of initiatives to mark the day were organised by Exeter City Supporters’ Trust, its One Game One Community (OGOC) Group and Proud Grecians, the club's newly formed lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans (LGBT+) and allies supporters group.

It was the ninth time that an annual Exeter City home game has been designated as a Football v Homophobia match.

Players from both teams...

Exeter City suffered a 1-0 defeat against promotion rivals Mansfield Town which ended a run of seven games unbeaten at St James Park.

Mansfield striker Danny Rose scored the game’s only goal on the brink of half-time and City failed to provide a response on what was a disappointing afternoon for the Grecians.
