Pitch perfect: Football meets rugby in Exeter’s Strive ‘25 takeover

Exeter City Community Trust, the charitable arm of Exeter City Football Club, is stepping into a new sport as it joins a major national initiative to grow women’s rugby in the city ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.

The organisation, which is more used to the beautiful game than the oval ball, is joining with Exeter Chiefs and Exeter City Council as the delivery partner for the Strive ‘25 Rugby Challenge, a national programme aimed at engaging 25,000 women and girls in rugby across host cities. Exeter is one of only eight UK cities which are hosting the Women’s Rugby World...

Do England need to be afraid of a shootout this summer?

The pubs of Exeter will be full of Three Lions fans this summer. And they could get an extended few games there with England tipped to make it through the group and into the knockout stages.

A tie against Colombia or Poland is a possibility, and while fans will be pondering which they’ll prefer, one thing is for sure - avoid a penalty shootout.

Losing on penalties is like a broken record for Gareth Southgate’s men. In fact, the boss himself is famed for missing one.

But do we need to worry this time around? Will things be different?

Looking at the potential...

Cornwall retained their Street Sports title after an epic event at Mount Hawke Skatepark near Truro on Friday. The home team were in great form on four wheels or two as youngsters from right across the region enjoyed the experience of competing at one of the UK's best skate parks and host of the Team GB Olympic Trials for Tokyo 2020. Cornwall's Mount Hawke team took gold in both the scooter and skateboard team classes as their fellow Cornish contingent from Junkyard took the BMX team gold. There were also medals for East Devon and Teignbridge in the team and individual disciplines. See...

Exeter's Loungers begin their British title challenge

Exeter’s hopes for this year’s British Skittles Championships rest with the Loungers men’s team who stormed through to the finals last year. The team from the Kings Pub in Cowick Street, only fell at the final hurdle against the more experienced Wiltshire Wonders, who were previous champions.

The team’s runner-up performance in the grand finals held in Torquay, was their best ever and captain Rob Parkhouse is fielding the same team in the hope of victory.

‘We need to qualify first and that won’t be easy, said Rob cautiously. ‘There are some great teams to play against in...

What awaits England fans at the World Cup in Russia?

In the past few years- there has been a constant debate regarding the best footballer of modern times. The top two contenders for the coveted title have been Lionel Messi from Argentina and Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal.

The FIFA Ballon D’or Footballer of the Year award has also been suggesting the same for the past 5-6 years. It has been like a great war between the supporters of these wizards. They entertain the lovers of the beautiful game, carry the pride and expectations of their respective clubs and countrymen, and have been continuously playing at the peak of their games for...

Exeter Chiefs 46 Gloucester 10

Watching England head coach Eddie Jones was given plenty to ponder as he watched defending Aviva Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs seal their place in this season’s play-offs with an emphatic six-try victory over visiting Gloucester.

With a glut of Red Rose talent to peruse on the lush Sandy Park turf, Devon’s finest served up a sumptuous Sunday treat to maintain their position at the summit of the table.

First half tries from international duo Alec Hepburn and Sam Simmonds, plus another from Olly Woodburn, paved the foundations for the victory, which was sealed with a...

Chiefs side to face Gloucester

Ali Hepher says the time has come for Exeter Chiefs to "get the hammer down" and propel themselves ever closer to the Aviva Premiership play-offs.

With just four rounds of the regular season remaining, the defending champions currently sit top of the pile, eight points clear of next best Saracens, and ten clear of third-place Wasps.

It's a perfect position for Devon's finest to find themselves in, but head coach Hepher acknowledges the Chiefs must look to strengthen their grip on proceedings, starting with Sunday's clash against Gloucester at a packed out Sandy Park (3pm...

How England could line up at World Cup 2018?

Its just a little time before we will witness the biggest sports event of the year, and boy we are excited!

For the England team though, it is about creating the right balance. We do have promising strikers like Harry Kane but they do need to fire. Additionally, football is more about getting the combination right than just expecting one guy to fire away. Which makes us wonder, what should the England team focus on in their line up at the World Cup 2018 ? England would have it a tad bit easier in the group stages having been placed with Belgium, Panama and Tunisia but we really...

Grecians leave it late to take all three points on the road

Cambridge United 2 Exeter City 3

Exeter City came from behind to beat Cambridge United 3-2 at the Abbey Stadium in Sky Bet League Two.

After falling behind to a Jabo Ibehre goal in the first half, the Grecians rallied to level through Jayden Stockley's header.

The home side then went in front again after a wonderful finish from George Maris, but after Matt Jay scored his first senior goal for the club, Jake Taylor was on hand to round off the comeback late on to ensure the Grecians keep up their hopes for automatic promotion.

Paul Tisdale named an unchanged...

A night out with the boss is something most of us dread but one ‘employee’ can’t wait for his and he’s inviting you to join him!

For Exeter Chiefs director of rugby, Rob Baxter, is staging a special evening with one of his longest serving staff members – Gareth Steenson.

It is all part of the fly half’s testimonial year which has already boasted a whole host of sold-out events.

And just a few tickets are left for Baxter A Tribute To Steeno at Sandy Park.

The evening will focus on the promotion season and early years in the Premiership and the subsequent...
