Members of Honiton Tae Kwon Do came back from the Southern Championships in Paignton with a haul of medals.

After their stunning performance at the World Championships in July, students showed no sign of complacency when they attended the latest championships, bringing back four gold medals, six silvers and one bronze.

Successes were earned in a number of divisions including individual patterns, sparring, team patterns and team sparring. Honiton put in a strong performance overall and was placed seventh on the leader board out of the 28 TAGB schools from the South West of England who attended the event.

There is one more competition yet to come this year, the British Championships which are being held in Birmingham this month.

The Honiton club, which has been running for over 30 years, is part of the Tae Kwon Do Association of Great Britain, the largest Tae Kwon Do organisation in the UK.

Instructor, Tracy Kirby said: “As well as being competitive, our club is very much a family affair, with students starting their training from the age of five - often alongside their siblings and sometimes even their parents.”

A month’s free training is available, so anyone interested can try out this martial art before having to make a commitment. Classes are taught by qualified instructors with over 20 years’ experience of teaching and training in Tae Kwon Do. The main focus of the club is the welfare of students and encouraging them to be the best they can be.
