Students from Honiton Tae Kwon Do attended the TAGB South West Championships and the TAGB English Championships, bagging an impressive 12 trophies from the two events.

At the South West Championships, Ben Snaith continued his medal success by winning gold in Boys Blue and Red Belt Heavyweight Sparring and becoming South West Champion. Roxy Spiller won gold in Girls Blue Belt Patterns, adding South West Champion to her list of titles. Roxy also obtained silver in her sparring division, narrowly missing out on becoming a double champion.

Olivia Vincent won gold in Girls Yellow Belt Patterns in her first tournament, an impressive achievement. Oli Buss gained silver in Men’s Red Belt Patterns, whilst Lisa Down won bronze in Ladies Yellow and Green Belt Middleweight sparring. Lisa had a tough draw, her opponent being four grades higher.

Other local competitors were Amelia Wadsworth, Antonio Fruscella, Emily Down, Jessica Branch and Penelope Anning, and Honiton Tae Kwon Do was placed a creditable sixth out of twenty-one schools from the South West of England.

At the English National Championships in Worcester, Olivia Vincent won gold and added the title of English Champion - at only her second competition. With well over 40 competitors in her division this was no mean feat. Roxy Spiller maintained her winning ways by placing third in Girls Blue Belt Patterns and gaining gold in Girls Blue Belt lightweight tag team sparring.

Amelia Wadsworth, Jessica Branch and Olivia Wadsworth entered Team Patterns, a new event at the championships, which is judged on synchronisation and overall performance of a pattern of the team’s choice. The girls named their team “Kirby’s Angels” after their instructor Tracy Kirby 3rd Degree Black Belt. After all their hard practice, the team wowed the judges and won the category to become English Champions.

Honiton TAGB Taekwondo is at its busiest time with preparations underway for upcoming Black Belt gradings, coloured belt gradings and another competition in Wales well as the World Championships in July.
