Natwest Venus Awards - nominations close at midnight tonight!

The nominations for the NatWest Venus Awards in Devon will close at midnight tonight, with hundreds of nominations sent in so far.

This is the first year the Venus Awards have launched in Devon, following three successful years in neighbouring counties.

The Venus Awards recognise the efforts and talents of local business women, and are split into 11 categories covering all aspects of business and personal achievement.

Founded by Tara Howard, a mother-of-four and managing director of the Historic Langtry Manor Hotel in Dorset, the Venus Awards were created to give due credit to women in business who can sometimes be overlooked and undervalued.

Tara said, “It’s amazing how many nominations we have had in and it is the first year of the awards, Devon has already surpassed expectations with the amount of nominations.  There are still however some categories that we are looking for more nominations for including, Green Business, Entrepreneur and High Achiever.

The categories, which are sponsored by female-friendly local businesses, are:

  • Heart FM: Business Mother of the Year
  • Cathedral Appointments: Employer of the Year
  • The Exeter Daily: Employee of the Year
  • NatWest: Small Business of the Year
  • Hartnell Chanot & Partners: New Business of the Year
  • Centre for Business and Climate Solutions: Green Business
  • Bishop Fleming: Entrepreneur of the Year
  • The Old Bag Company: Inspirational Woman
  • Home Based Business of the Year
  • High Achiever of the Year
  • Networker of the Year

Speaking about the awards, Tara commented, “There are so many remarkable women out there who truly deserve to be celebrated for their outstanding contribution to local business. It takes just a few minutes and makes a real difference.”

After nominations close tonight, nominees have until Monday 20 May to complete their applications, before the judging panel begin the difficult task of whittling down the entries.

Perhaps you have a boss who goes that extra mile to look after their female employees, someone who works hard in their own venture or someone else’s business, or if you just have a special woman in mind who you believe deserves recognition.

You can nominate now by going to www.devon.venusawards.co.uk/nominate/ before entries close.

For the finalists and those wishing to attend, the grand awards ceremony will take place at Exeter University on September 5th when the winners will be announced. Tickets can be purchased at the Venus Awards website.
