Science on tap: Exeter pubs to host Pint of Science 2026 

Some of Exeter’s best-loved pubs will be hosting this year’s Pint of Science, offering up fascinating talks on everything from atoms and galaxies to understanding neurodiversity.

Running from 18-20 May, this year’s festival marks the 13th edition of the annual event, which brings researchers out of the lab and into local bars in 42 cities across the UK.

In Exeter, venues including the Bootlegger, Arcadia and City Gate Hotel will transform into hubs of scientific discussion with informative talks, demonstrations, live experiments, and a multi-city pub quiz competition....

Exeter Northcott Theatre is looking for local children to join the cast of its recently announced family pantomime Dick Whittington.

The theatre is searching for talented young male and female actors, aged between 10 and 15 on 1st September 2017, to take acting, singing and dancing roles in the show.

Everyone will have the chance to act, sing and dance – auditionees don’t need to be trained, but need to be prepared to give it their all.

Members of Exeter’s legal community have gathered in Southernhay to launch a campaign to support Devon Community Foundation, as it develops a cultural tribute following the Cathedral Yard fire.

Property Search Group had the idea to bring together the city’s law firms to raise money, by commissioning a painting of Southernhay and then auctioning it. The painting depicts a ‘day in the life’ of the area, traditionally the city’s legal hub.

Exeter’s Best Bar None scheme is celebrating great success on its second anniversary. In the last year sixty premises signed up to be members of the programme which promotes responsible management and operation of alcohol licensed premises and aims to make Exeter a safer and more vibrant place for those living, working and visiting the city.

Funding needed for art project supporting people with dementia

AN Exeter project, which offers outdoor activities and art projects for people living with dementia has been put at risk due to lack of funding. Developed by Age UK Exeter, the `Budding Friends´ initiative provides a weekly allotment project through the spring and summer and art workshops in partnership with Studio 36. Higher Cemetery ashes section improved

Improvements have been carried out to an area in Exeter’s Higher Cemetery.

The ashes section next door to the World War II areas of the cemetery in Heavitree was prone to becoming a muddy patch of grass during wet weather but now the area has been smartened up and made better for visitors.

New footpaths giving greater access have been installed and the memorials have been set against a smart stone background.

Mush is a new free app that connects mums with other local, like-minded mums and generates friendships.

It’s mission is to make the lives of mums more sociable and fun, enabling meet-ups in real life with other mums who can support each other.

Council steps in to secure two bus routes in South Devon

Devon County Council has stepped in to secure the main sections of two bus routes in South Devon.

Bus operator Local Link is withdrawing its services which connect to Torbay. From Monday 3 April, a new contract will start with services operated by Country Bus to maintain links from two Devon villages to Paignton.

There will be five buses a day from Stoke Gabriel and one bus an hour from Marldon. The new contract has been awarded to Country Bus after a successful competitive tendering exercise.
