Nello cyclists have special reasons for taking part

FORCE Cancer Charity’s largest annual fundraiser – The Nello bike ride – is less than two months away and cyclists from across Devon and around the country are gearing up for the big day on Sunday June 28.

Since the first Nello Century Cycle Challenge in 2000, the ride has raised £1.5million for Exeter-based FORCE, which works locally to support anyone affected by cancer, face-to-face and close to home.

The charity has set a target of raising £127,500 from Nello 2026 to meet the increasing demand for its unique services.

Exeter College celebrates record breaking year with 1,000th Apprentice

Exeter College is celebrating a record breaking year by celebrating welcoming their 1,000th apprentice.

The 1,000th Apprentice is Jordanna Broom who is a higher engineering apprentice at the University of Exeter. Jordanna enjoyed her initial engineering training and has decided to pursue her career through one of the college’s higher level apprenticeships.

To celebrate this milestone and the ongoing relationship between the college and the university, a memento has been made by the University’s engineering apprentices and presented to the college.

People in Teignbridge are invited to have their say on proposals to introduce a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) across the district to help deal with dog mess problems.

A consultation launches today asking people to put forward their views on a proposed PSPO which, if approved, will help make the enforcement process simpler and give council staff the power to issue on-the-spot fines to irresponsible dog owners.

In March 2016, Exeter Hospiscare nurse Daisy McLauchlan was travelling back from a weekend break on the Isle of Wight, when a call was sent out over the ship’s tannoy system asking for any doctors, nurses or first aiders on board to urgently make their way to the front of the vessel.

A total of 35 worthy community schemes have had Parishes Together Fund applications approved by the decision making panel of East Devon District councillors between April 2016 and March 2017. The same funding is available again now.

Fire at landmark Teignmouth cafe

Three appliances from Teignmouth, Dawlish and Torquay, and an Operational Assurance Officer, were mobilised to the Beachcomber Café in Teignmouth, following several calls reporting a fire.

Immediately upon arrival of the first appliance, the assistance of a fourth fire engine was requested. This was mobilised from Paignton.

Royal Clarence rebuilding plans open to public consultation

Following the devastation of The Royal Clarence Hotel in October 2016 and months of careful deconstruction that have taken place since, the first plans will be put forward this week when outlines for the external façade are shared with the people of Exeter.

Westpoint Arena, Exeter became a sea of pink on Sunday as thousands of women joined the fight against cancer by taking part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. An unusual dog who has been repeatedly overlooked at an animal rescue centre is hoping to find her paw-fect forever home.

Daisy has been cared for by the team at RSPCA Little Valley Animal Shelter in Exeter after her previous owner gave her away after finding herself unable to cope with two dogs who had been brought over from America.

Daisy, who is an American Black and Tan Coonhound, has been waiting for almost six months with little interest from those looking to adopt a dog from the charity.

Local lady Wendy from Chudleigh will be hosting her annual, fun-filled street party on Saturday September 2nd.

This year she will be raising money for a charity close to her heart, Pancreatic Cancer Action.

Wendy, owner of the Bishop Lacy Inn on Fore Street organises the community event to bring everyone together for a day of celebration that anyone can come along to free of charge.

Police appeal after robbery in Tiverton

Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery in Tiverton on Saturday 22 July 2017.

The incident took place just after 1.30pm at ‘Cash 4 Clothes’ on Leat Street in Tiverton.

A male offender entered the premises holding a small blade and demanded money and then pushed the victim, a woman in her 40s, to the ground before making off with cash.
