Fire at landmark Teignmouth cafe

Three appliances from Teignmouth, Dawlish and Torquay, and an Operational Assurance Officer, were mobilised to the Beachcomber Café in Teignmouth, following several calls reporting a fire.

Immediately upon arrival of the first appliance, the assistance of a fourth fire engine was requested. This was mobilised from Paignton.

Below id he fire service log:

23:00 - Kitchen area of the café is well alight. Remainder of the property is heavily smoke logged. Two sets of breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet are in use.

23:06  - Breathing apparatus are now increased to four. Police are also requested at the scene due to large crowds.

23:18 - Breathing apparatus are now increased to six for a saveable property.

23:30  - Main fire has now been extinguished, and breathing apparatus has been decreased to four. Crews are damping down and in progress of scene preservation. Ventilation is also in progress.

00:16 - FINAL DETAILS - Kitchen measuring 8m x 10m severely damaged by fire. Remainder of the property severely damaged by heat and smoke. Six breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets, one safety jet, and positive pressure ventilation, were used to extinguish the fire. Fire investigation is being carried out.
