Nello cyclists have special reasons for taking part

FORCE Cancer Charity’s largest annual fundraiser – The Nello bike ride – is less than two months away and cyclists from across Devon and around the country are gearing up for the big day on Sunday June 28.

Since the first Nello Century Cycle Challenge in 2000, the ride has raised £1.5million for Exeter-based FORCE, which works locally to support anyone affected by cancer, face-to-face and close to home.

The charity has set a target of raising £127,500 from Nello 2026 to meet the increasing demand for its unique services.

Parents appeal for missing son

The parents of missing Exeter man, Gavin Heywood, who has been missing since 26th May have pleaded for their son to make contact or for anyone who may have seen him to get in contact.

Mr and Mrs Heywood said: “Our son Gavin has now been missing since May 26th. During this time he hasn't used his bank account or his phone.

“This is totally out of character. We are very concerned and desperately need to know if he is safe and well. If anyone knows of his whereabouts or anything at all about his disappearance, PLEASE contact the police.”

Dr. Sarah Jackson has long been a supporter of popular Devon charity Hospiscare , and now holds the position of trustee. But this September will see Sarah go further still as she plans the challenge of completing her first half-ironman to raise funds for the charity.

Riverside Leisure Centre pool may be closed until September 2018

Exeter City Council has revealed more details about the work being carried out to assess the full extent of fire damage at the city’s Riverside Leisure Centre. The task of assessing damage to the roof caused by the fire on February 21 is complex and time consuming, and the operator cannot reopen the pool and health suite until it is safe and appropriate to do so. A report following a full structural assessment of the roof is expected to be completed by the end of August. Devon residents, who want to recycle their food and garden waste but don’t know how, can pick up some top tips and advice from the experts at a Compost Roadshow.

During August and September Recycle Devon, a partnership of 10 Devon councils, is holding roadshows at various locations throughout the county. Visitors to the roadshows will be able to pick up a discounted compost bin, enter a prize draw and receive some one-to-one advice. Lapford Parish Council Awarded £2,500 from Calor to Instate Fibre Optic Broadband Access

Lapford Parish Council is celebrating after being awarded a grant of £2,500 by energy provider Calor, to install fibre optic broadband access to around 60% of the properties in Lapford Village, including the primary school. The grant is part of Calor’s Rural Community Fund.

Calor’s Rural Community Fund asked local organisations to apply for funding for rural community projects, with winners eligible to receive a grant of up to £5,000.

The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Lesley Robson, will be in attendance at the Budleigh Salterton Male Voice Choir’s (BSMVC) Concert on Saturday 5th August at Exeter Cathedral.

The gala Concert, which is being held in support of Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) in celebration of their 25th year of service, is sure to be a sensational event. £5 million resurfacing improvements for North Devon Link Road

The North Devon Link Road is to undergo a major £5 million upgrade of its road surface and drainage, Transport Minister Jesse Norman has announced.

Sections of the A361 will be improved, following Devon County Council’s successful bid for Challenge Funding. Twins and mum who died in north Devon crash are named

Police have today named the mother and her twin children who tragically lost their lives in a collision on the A361 near Landkey Junction, Barnstaple, on Monday 31 July.

Jane Baker-Lockett, 43, and her children, 12-year-old twins James and Amy Gaskin died when the car they were travelling in was involved in a collision.

Emergency services were called at 8.25am to the A361 at Barnstaple following a two vehicle collision between a white Kia Sportage travelling towards Barnstaple and a lorry travelling in the opposite direction.
