When people think about dementia, they often think about memory loss, diagnosis or the practical aspects of care.

What is spoken about far less is the emotional toll of trying to navigate support systems whilst also coping with the reality of someone you care about living with dementia.

Mihangelf Promotions bring Banco de Gaia to South Devon

Mihangelf Promotions is a relatively new music promotions enterprise in South Devon putting on live music.

Thus far, there have been five events at the Unit 23 Live venue in Totnes, formerly South Devon Arts Centre, a short hop away on the train or up the A38.

The enterprise is run by music lover Mike Fraser who lives local to Totnes.

Business as usual on the Quay as canons return

Businesses on Exeter’s historic Quay are reminding people that the area is still open for business despite ongoing building work being carried out. Work on the multi-million pound Flood Defence Scheme has been going on at the Quay for some time now but for the shops, restaurants, bars and attractions down by the waterside it’s still business as usual. Citizens Advice Exeter wins national award

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has shared a national Citizens Advice One Service Working Award.

The Award recognises the role that the charity played, with nine other local Citizens Advice offices across the Country, to pilot the new ‘Casebook’ client management system. Other recipients included Devon-based offices in East Devon, South Hams, Teignbridge and Torridge, North, Mid and West Devon.

Exeter trusts set up new academy to help staff improve patient care and experience

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E) and Devon Partnership NHS Trust (DPT) have won a national bid to set up a new academy in Devon to improve care for patients.

The Devon Flow Coaching Academy aims to better manage a patient’s journey or ‘flow’ through the healthcare system by streamlining and redesigning processes in a way that benefits them, their carers and staff. It is expected to begin its work in February 2018.

Steer clear of alcohol and drugs if you’re driving this Christmas

Throughout December Devon and Cornwall Police will be making sure that the region’s roads are a safe place for everyone.

The annual Christmas operation to stop people driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, through awareness raising and rigorous enforcement, is under way.

Any drivers involved in a collision and any motorists whose driving may lead police to suspect they are under the influence of alcohol will be breathalysed. If drug driving is suspected, drivers can also be tested at the roadside using a mouth swab device.

Tractor worth £30,000 taken from Bovey Tracey farm

Police are appealing for witnesses after the theft of a £30,000 tractor from a farm in Bovey Tracey.

The red McCormick tractor [pictured] was taken from the farm yard overnight on Thursday 30 November to Friday 1 December.

Police are appealing for witnesses and asking anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area to contact them. It carries the registration number WA10 KWT.
