Honorary degree for former Exeter MP

Former city MP Ben Bradshaw thanked University of Exeter students for “all they have given the city” as he joined their graduation ceremony to be given his own honorary degree.

An urgent and confidential report was taken to East Devon District Council’s Cabinet last night about two Exmouth seafront tenancies.

Exeter City Council is looking at bringing in a new fire safety management policy for its housing stock. The local authority is looking closely at escape routes in flats and ensuring that they are kept free of clutter. Possible merger between Devon and Dorset police forces

The Chief Constables of Devon and Cornwall and Dorset Police have announced plans to explore further collaboration and closer working between the two forces.

There is an established strategic alliance programme between the forces which has seen significant efficiencies and better working in the last four years.

Whilst this announcement does not preclude any outcome, one avenue now being explored further is the possibility of a full merger between the two forces uniting Devon and Cornwall Police and Dorset Police into one police force.

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of local charity Hospiscare, Dr Becky Baines, Hospiscare’s Medical Director is getting out of her comfort zone and is asking if at least 35 local people will join her.

Becky has bravely signed up for the Great West Run on 15th Oct 2017, a 13.1 mile run through the heart of Exeter. It’s a brave move because the only other race Becky has previously completed was back in 2015, when she took part in a 10K just to prove to herself she could do it.

FORCE funds chemotherapy in Tiverton

Chemotherapy for cancer patients is available in Tiverton for the first time, thanks to £160,000 worth of funding from a local charity.

FORCE Cancer Charity, based in Exeter with regular outreach sessions at Tiverton and District Hospital, has set aside money from a legacy to pay for the weekly service.

Ottery's new synthetic sports pitch is now open

Ottery St Mary’s new all-weather synthetic pitch, which is owned by East Devon District Council and run by operators LED Leisure Management Ltd, is now officially open.

Representatives from all the groups involved in the project gathered to watch International British field hockey player Giselle Ansley, who comes originally from Kingsbridge, Devon, cut the ribbon to open the pitch.

The main users of the pitch are pupils of The King’s School Ottery St Mary, the local community and Sidmouth & Ottery Hockey Club.

Exeter Philharmonic Choir, which has just celebrated its 170th season, is delighted to announce that Howard Ionascu will become its new Director of Music in September, marking a new era in the choir’s long history.

Police make drugs arrests at Powderham Lockdown event

Devon and Cornwall Police say there were a number of drug-related arrests linked to Lockdown event at Powderham Castle over the weekend, but there were no reports of sexual assaults at what was a largely peaceful event.
