When people think about dementia, they often think about memory loss, diagnosis, or the practical aspects of care.

What is spoken about far less is the emotional toll of trying to navigate support systems, whilst also coping with the reality of someone you care about living with dementia.

Over the past few years, families have reached out to me for support during incredibly vulnerable times. In one situation, a family approached me specifically for guidance and advocacy.

New residents parking schemes in Exeter come into force

New residents parking schemes in Exeter come into force from February 5.

The existing Bovemoors Lane Area, Regents Park Area and the Rifford Road Area schemes in Exeter are being extended and a new Burnthouse Lane Area created. The schemes follow requests from residents affected by commuter parking and feedback from a subsequent public consultation. FORCE Cancer Charity is all set to launch a new partnership with one of Exeter’s most iconic shopping and dining destinations.

FORCE has been chosen as Princesshay’s Charity of the Year for 2018.

City council to discuss delaying Exeter Bus Station closure

Proposals to extend the length of time Exeter Bus Station can remain open during work to build its replacement are due to be discussed by the council’s Leisure Complex and Bus Station Programme Board. Following the decision of developer the Crown Estate to withdraw its plans to create a retail and leisure development at the site, it is now possible to keep the bus station fully open until May 2018. Overnight closures at Junction 30 of the M5 next week

Junction 30 of the M5 will be closed overnight next week in order to complete line painting work at Sandygate roundabout.

The roundabout was resurfaced before Christmas but poor weather conditions prevented the scheme from being finished.

Devon County Council has now scheduled additional overnight closures for Monday 22 January, Tuesday 23 January and Wednesday 24 January for the work to be carried out.

Blue plaque honours animal hero and her owner

Exeter’s animal hero, the valiant pigeon Mary of Exeter, and her owner, Cecil “Charlie” Brewer, will be honoured on Saturday 20 January 2018 by the unveiling of a blue plaque at her owner’s former home in West Street.

Mary, part of the National Pigeon Service during the Second World War, carried top secret military messages across the English Channel to her pigeon loft behind Charlie’s bootmaker’s workshop. She was awarded the Dickin Medal, the highest award for animal bravery.

Thousands raised for Princesshay’s charity of the year

Princesshay has announced it has raised more than £17,000 for its charity of the year, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

A car raffle in partnership with Snows Toyota & Lexus Exeter raised over £11,200 alone for the charity, with the winning ticket drawn on 23rd December of the brand new car.
