Devon Young Carers shine at the 2025 Young Carers Festival

Seventeen young carers from across Devon have enjoyed a well-deserved break from their caring responsibilities at the largest festival in the world dedicated to young people with unpaid caring roles.

It’s the 25th year that Devon Young Carers has attended the Young Carers Festival at YMCA Fairthorne Manor at Botley in Hampshire. Four dedicated staff members, one volunteer, and one inspiring Adult Young Carer accompanied them on a two-night adventure packed with connection, laughter, and discovery - a well-deserved break from their day-to-day caring roles at home.

FORCE stages new autumn cycle rides

FORCE Cancer Charity is staging one of its popular fundraising cycle events this weekend (October 1) with a new twist.

There’s a different location for the charity’s autumn ride this year and for the first time there’s also a choice of two distances.

FORCE’s Autumn Series features the 55-mile Autumn Storm challenge and the Autumn Breeze, a 30-mile route to mark the charity’s 30th anniversary.

Sunday’s rides start and finish at Clyst Vale Community College in Broadclyst. Cyclists will be on staggered starts in small batches from 8-8:30am.

X-ray room transformed into a submarine thanks to Big Raise for Little Rays campaign

A paediatric X-ray room at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital has been given a submarine style makeover thanks to fundraising campaign led by Radiology staff.

The Big Raise for Little Rays campaign aimed to refurbish an X-ray room so that it would be more friendly and welcoming for younger patients. Thanks to the efforts of staff and local fundraisers the room has been given a marine makeover complete with a deep sea diver, make-believe periscope, control panels and portholes looking out to sea from which tropical fish, turtles and even a whale can be spotted swimming by.

An exclusive awards ceremony and exhibition opening at Exeter Phoenix on Thursday 14 September saw Aimee Parrott announced as the winner of the prestigious £1000 Overall Award for Exeter Contemporary Open 2017. Aimee Parrot said, ‘I’m really surprised. It’s been a privilege to be showing amongst so many good works. For me making art is a line of exploration. Housing development to create 70 new jobs in Exeter

The creation of new homes in Pinhoe is set to underpin more than 70 jobs.

David Wilson Homes, which is working on its Harts Meadow development in Monkerton, Pinhoe, says the roles will include tradesmen, subcontractors and sales advisors and that most roles will be filled by local people.

It comes as research shows David Wilson Homes, along with its sister company Barratt Homes, supported 1,600 jobs in the region last year.

Exeter Foundation donates bladder scanner to Bolham Ward

The Exeter Foundation has donated a new bladder scanner to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital’s Bolham Ward in memory of former patient Patrick Tilbury.

Patrick’s parents Barbara and David Tilbury applied to the Foundation for the £6,000 donation to the neurological ward, which Patrick was cared for in January 2016 before he sadly passed away.

Exeter Foundation Trustee and Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines MBE recently visited the ward with Mr and Mrs Tilbury to take a look at the new piece of equipment and hear from staff first-hand how the scanner is already...

Lots of family fun at the Hospiscare Breakfast Run!

Hundreds of pyjama-clad runners, joggers and walkers from across Devon turned up at glorious Knightshayes near Tiverton on Sunday 17th September to take part in the Hospiscare Breakfast Run. The novelty event which featured a 5 or 10k route attracted runners from all age groups and abilities, with 482 people joining in to raise much-needed funds for local charity Hospiscare.

The participants enjoyed an off road course with some challenging inclines and were rewarded for their efforts at the end with a delicious breakfast from the Stables Kitchen.

National charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People has announced that it will be launching a brand-new puppy socialising scheme this month in Exeter, appealing for more Volunteers to step forward and help the life-transforming charity. The charity desperately needs more dog lovers to apply to become puppy socialisers and is now seeking volunteers in the area, to care for adorable hearing dog puppies for one year. Family tribute to Silverton crash victim

A local man who died following a serious collision in Silverton last week has been named as Roger Tucker.

Mr Tucker died when the car he was travelling in was involved in a three-car collision on Park Road in Silverton, Devon.

His family have made the following tribute:

County cash boosts grassroots football

Seven of Exeter’s Devon County Councillors have earmarked part of their community budget to help get Devon’s young people more involved in sport.

Appeal for witnesses to high value burglary in Exmouth

Officers in Exmouth are appealing for witnesses following a burglary at a property on Cranford Avenue in Exmouth which happened between 4.30pm and 8pm on Friday 8 September 2017.

An offender gained access to the property through a ground floor bedroom window and stole a large amount of cash and jewellery.

Sterling adding up to £10,000 and $8,000 Hong Kong dollars was taken along with two Gucci wrist watches, a Rolex wrist watch, a Passport, gold and silver rings, a gold bracelet, a silver necklace, and a Jade hoop-shaped pendent.
