When people think about dementia, they often think about memory loss, diagnosis, or the practical aspects of care.

What is spoken about far less is the emotional toll of trying to navigate support systems, whilst also coping with the reality of someone you care about living with dementia.

Devon households produce the lowest amount of 'black bag' waste in the country

Devon residents produced less rubbish for disposal per household than in any other county according to government figures.

Defra figures for 2016/17 show that Devon's households typically produced just 4.94kg of ‘black bin or bag’ residual waste each week – down from 5.94kg in 2012, a 20 per cent decrease. Devon has also cemented its place as one of the top recycling counties in the country, with a recycling rate of 55.7 per cent. Race against time to save historic croquet pavilion from demolition

A Victorian croquet pavilion that has stood for over 120 years could be demolished in less than a fortnight unless the owners are persuaded to think again.

The Croquet Club at Budleigh Salterton has informed the council of their intention to demolish the timber-framed building as a recent surveyor’s report found it to be structurally unsound. From bats to butterflies and dormice to dragonflies - volunteers joined East Devon District Council’s Countryside team to conduct several surveys to collect a range of wildlife data from local nature reserves across the district during 2017.

Staff at Shaldon Wildlife Trust are excited to be seeing Harley, the Margay kitten exploring his outside enclosure. Harley has been snuggled up in his heated den area with mum Josefien for the past few months as he would be in the wild.

Margay are also known as the Tree Ocelot; they have flexible ankles allowing them to run head first down trees. One of only 3 species known to do this! Harley is having great fun learning all the tricks of becoming an independent cat!
