Gandy Street is the place to be on the First Thursdays of the month this summer

First Thursdays is a new event you won’t want to miss.

From June to September, Gandy Street will come alive on the first Thursday of each month, with a festival atmosphere in the early evening.

The first event takes place on Thursday 4 June, 5–8pm. Expect late-night shopping, live music, street entertainment, extended opening hours at cultural venues and a cocktail trail. All your favourite businesses on Gandy Street and in the surrounding area will be open, including:

The hero of London Bridge who was stabbed nine times as he fought off three terrorists armed with just a police baton has called on Exeter people to nominate an unsung hero of their own. Princesshay has announced a free community event to celebrate summer in the city. The ‘HAY Summer’s Here’ event on Thursday 26th July will feature spectacular street entertainment, live music, a face painter, creative workshops and food samples from the restaurants. A trio of Teignbridge parks have received the prestigious Green Flag award yet again for their high standard of quality and cleanliness.

Decoy Country Park and Courtenay Park, Newton Abbot, and The Den, Teignmouth, are confirmed as among the best parks and open spaces in Britain.

Former physiotherapist, Fiona Murphy, founded her social enterprise, Double Bounce Inclusive Tennis South West CIC, to combine her love of tennis and helping others.

River users get new defibrillator access

Teign Corinthian Yacht Club (TCYC), Teignbridge District Council and the Teign Estuary and Coastal Partnership have worked together to install a new defibrillator close to the quay side and slipway at Polly Steps, Teignmouth.

The proposal and main fund raising for the equipment came about through the TCYC following the sudden death of one of its members at this site. Supported by family, friends and Teign Heartbeat, TCYC raised the funds for two defibrillator units - the other being based at Coombe Cellars where the club’s dinghy section is based.
