Calling all crocheters: Help celebrate the Women’s Rugby World Cup

Crochet enthusiasts in Exeter are being asked to get creative and help celebrate the Women’s Rugby World Cup coming to the city.

Crafters from across Exeter are invited to make rugby-themed crochet pieces for a yarn exhibition at Exeter’s historic Guildhall and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery (RAMM).

The Women’s Rugby World Cup comes to Exeter in late August and September, with Sandy Park hosting seven games, including two quarter-finals. As a result, the city will welcome players and fans from nine countries as Exeter is put on the global stage....

New for 2019, the RS200 Class Association are excited to be integrating an RS200 Big Beach Clean at Beacon Cove as part of the Super Social Schedule!

Following the recent devastating news of plastic polluting our seas, RS200 sailors have decided to play their part in tackling this problem. Not only are sailors being encouraged to ditch single-use plastic and opt for more sustainable options; the RS200 Social Team have organised an RS200 Big Beach Clean at Beacon Cove and the surrounding harbour to give back to the local area and help keep our playground free from plastic pollutants...

Next Steps South West’s work at Exeter College is set to continue as the National Collaborative Outreach Programme has been extended for a further two academic years, with a new completion date of 31 July 2021.

Established in January 2017, Next Steps South West (NSSW) operates out of 14 partner universities and colleges throughout Cornwall, Devon and Somerset with the aim of providing impartial advice to young people who are trying to navigate their journey to higher education.

Network Rail commits to summer of Dawlish beach cleans

Network Rail has announced that throughout the summer, staff will be undertaking regular beach cleans along the Dawlish sea front to help keep the beach clean and free from rubbish. The commitment follows the break in work to improve the resilience of the sea wall between Dawlish station and Kennaway tunnel over the peak tourist season.

Savvy South West savers lead the #FixFirst charge!

A survey by the UK’s leading online spare parts retailer, eSpares, has found that residents from the South West are saving money and protecting the environment by taking the time to fix broken household appliances. 46% of the region would prefer to have items repaired than needlessly throw them away. Exeter lawyer Penny Scott, who has contributed to the consultation on the Domestic Abuse Bill which is now being debated in Parliament, says more investment is needed if the Bill is to be effective.
