Calling all crocheters: Help celebrate the Women’s Rugby World Cup

Crochet enthusiasts in Exeter are being asked to get creative and help celebrate the Women’s Rugby World Cup coming to the city.

Crafters from across Exeter are invited to make rugby-themed crochet pieces for a yarn exhibition at Exeter’s historic Guildhall and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery (RAMM).

The Women’s Rugby World Cup comes to Exeter in late August and September, with Sandy Park hosting seven games, including two quarter-finals. As a result, the city will welcome players and fans from nine countries as Exeter is put on the global stage....

Travel agents embark on cycle challenge to send 6-year-old to Disney

STAFF from eight Hays Travel branches are taking part in a cycle challenge alongside the firefighters from Middlemoor Fire Station who are cycling from Exeter to Basingstoke over a two day period in September.

The travel agent staff will match the firefighters’ miles using exercise bikes in the eight shops along the route.

On 30th May this year, firefighters from the Exeter group of the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue service rescued Amelie Aitken from a terrible road traffic collision. Tragically her father passed away at the scene.

Calling all young musicians and singers! A new professionally led ensemble is being launched in Devon this month, offering the chance to get expert tuition, write new songs, perform live - and, in the New Year, to record an album.

County Roots Ensemble is for singers and instrumentalists aged 12-18 to play and perform folk-roots and music from different cultures all over the world. Rehearsals will take place at the Cygnet Theatre in Exeter on the third Sunday of every month, starting on 15 September.

Paramedics start hazardous environments degree

Paramedics at South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) are beginning a brand new university course to help them to manage patients in hazardous environments.

SWASFT has been working with Plymouth University to create the Masters degree in Hazardous Area Response Paramedicine. This month, 16 paramedics will be the first to take up their places on the postgraduate course.

The Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) is a specialist unit that provides paramedic care in hazardous environments where previously clinicians would not be able to enter.

Naomi the grey gibbon, one of the oldest residents of Paignton Zoo, has died.
