Honorary degree for former Exeter MP

Former city MP Ben Bradshaw thanked University of Exeter students for “all they have given the city” as he joined their graduation ceremony to be given his own honorary degree.

Sir Ben’s award was in recognition of public service, including his achievements to boost the quality of schools in Exeter, bring jobs to the city and his campaigning for LGBT rights.

Cumberland Grange care home, in Exeter has thrown a party for residents, friends and families to celebrate 3 years of serving the local community.

Staff, residents and guests commemorated this special occasion with live music, photo booth pictures with props, a delicious buffet and to top it all off, a visit from a talented local magician who “blew everyone’s minds”. Porter Dodson, the UK Top 200 law firm, has announced that it has opened a new office at the heart of Exeter to meet increased demand for its services in the city and Devon.

New GP provider for homeless service in Exeter and Barnstaple

A new community interest company – Inclusion Health Devon (IncluDe) has been awarded the contract to provide primary medical care services to the homeless and vulnerably housed in Exeter and Barnstaple.

A local youth football club has received a £1,000 donation from one of the leading developers behind the Cranbrook expansion scheme.

Persimmon Homes South West handed over the cheque to Cranbrook United Youth FC at its playing fields, with the funds going towards new kits for players, which will be emblazoned with the company’s logo.

Since its formation in 2015, the club has grown into one of the largest club in the area, having age groups from Under 6s through to its Men’s team.

People in East Devon who are concerned about cancer can now get expert information and support while they shop.

For the first time, Tesco and Cancer Research UK are working together to prompt customers who have spotted something about their body that doesn’t look or feel right, or that isn’t going away, to talk with one of their local supermarket’s in-store pharmacists about what to do next.

Tithebarn’s Little Free Library officially opened with support from a local housebuilder.

Tithebarn’s Little Free Library and noticeboard were opened by Broadclyst Parish Council with the support of a £1,000 donation from local housebuilder Persimmon Homes.

Aldi donates 19,400 meals to Devon charities over summer

Aldi stores in Devon donated more than 19,400 meals to families in need during the recent summer school holidays.

All of its Devon stores supported local charities and foodbanks during a period of increased demand by redistributing surplus food via community giving platform, Neighbourly.

Ahead of the summer holidays, new research from Neighbourly found that 78% of the good causes it supports had seen demand for services increase in recent months, with 45% noticing a decrease in donations.
