In July EX2 Group was proud to support Building Greater Exeter’s Work Experience Week, an inspiring initiative aimed at introducing Year 10 students to careers in the built environment.

EX2 group team member James Rayner TMIET, led an engaging hands-on solar masterclass for Year 10 students from the Ted Wragg Trust.

Building Greater Exeter brought together a strong network of industry and educational partners, to educate and inspire, including:

New Roots Workshop CIC
Vistry Group
Taylor Lewis
Western Counties Roofing Ltd
Exeter College & Exeter College Apprenticeships
Bell
EX2 Group – Electrical | Compliance | ECO‑TECH | Engineering

These partners offered expert-led masterclasses across multiple trades, from roofing to green energy, enhancing the students’ exposure to the built-environment sector. Students learned about slate and tile roofing, alongside brick and carpentry work, hosted by New Roots Workshop CIC and Vistry Group who lead and organised the engaging, practical sessions.

On Day 2 of the week-long programme, the young participants – part of the Building Greater Exeter Class of 2025 – explored the design and installation of solar PV systems, examining both domestic and commercial installations along with retrofitting strategies.

James said: “Solar, energy and sustainability will be key future skills, so fantastic to see these potential electrical engineers engaging in learning. This project helps to bridge a skills gap, introduces a wide range of trades, as well as bringing private and public sector organisations together.”

Students also took part in a collaborative build project throughout the week where apprentices and students worked on a communal bench installation for Wynstream Primary School, applying practical skills in bricklaying, plastering, and carpentry.

The EX2 Group are leading south west electrical and mechanical engineers employing  a team of  highly-skilled, accredited engineers who work across education, health, commercial and industrial sites.
