Devon County Show launches first‑ever Community Growing Hub

The Devon County Show is proud to announce the launch of its first‑ever Community Growing Hub, a major new feature for 2026 designed to inspire visitors of all ages to get growing, get gardening, and get connected. The Hub will be hosted by horticulturalist and community growing advocate Kenny Raybould, who will lead a team of volunteers offering hands‑on advice, and practical support throughout the three‑day show.

Exmouth RNLI’s newest volunteer Tour Guide, Jay King, ran 25k yesterday to raise important and much needed funds for the lifesaving charity.

Yesterday morning, Saturday 3 April 2021 our very own newly recruited RNLI Tour Guide volunteer, Jay King, proved to the world that dinosaurs are capable of running long distances, especially if it’s to raise much needed funds for Exmouth’s RNLI, the charity that saves lives at sea.

Getting the help you need this Easter weekend

With Easter fast approaching, Devon’s NHS leaders are calling on people to take preventative measures ahead of the bank holidays and after as lockdown restrictions start to ease and ‘staycations’ start.

The long Easter weekend traditionally puts extra pressure on health services when most GP practices are closed and more people are outdoors enjoying everything Devon has to offer.

Most GP practices will be closed for Easter for four days from Friday 2 April to Monday 5 April, with normal opening hours resuming on Tuesday.

A new, refreshed Countryside Code has been launched today by Natural England, coinciding with the 70thth anniversary of the creation of the founding booklet. With more people enjoying the outdoors than ever before, the code has been revised to help people enjoy countryside in a safe and respectful way. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is asking the public to think twice about using disposable BBQs this holiday.

Wayne Rawlins, area manager for risk at Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue says:

Five-year funding boost for fungal research centre

A leading fungal research centre has received a further five years' funding from the Medical Research Council (MRC).

The MRC Centre for Medical Mycology , based at the University of Exeter, secured the funding through the renewal of its status as an MRC Centre.
