This summer, Brixham’s Fish Market will come alive with flavour and festivity as the South West Sardine Festival arrives on Sunday 03 August 2025, bringing a vibrant new celebration to the heart of one of Britain’s most historic fishing towns.

Free to attend and running from 12:00 to 21:30, the festival invites locals and visitors alike to experience a day inspired by coastal traditions, from the South West to the Mediterranean. At its heart is the British sardine - abundant, sustainable, and caught right here in the South West.

Princesshay is to be home to a brand new ‘pop up’ Christmas bar with private snow domes, a Bratwurst BBQ and wooden chalets this festive season.

From Thursday 3rd December, Princesshay Square will be transformed into a magical Christmas scene with an open-air snow house bar, 7 heated snow dome pods and outdoor seating, a Bratwurst BBQ grill and wooden chalets selling gifts and seasonal food. Pupils at Wave’s Torlands Academy in Exeter have been swapping lessons in traditional classrooms for the chance to learn outdoors – thanks to the development of a new Forest School.

Exeter Diabetes Professor wins Belgian’s top scientific prize from country’s queen

Andrew Hattersley, Professor of Molecular Medicine at the University of Exeter and diabetes consultant at the Royal Devon & Exeter NS Foundation Trust, has won the Baillet Latour Health Prize 2020. The award will be presented by the Queen of Belgium on Tuesday.
