Cranbrook to Host First eat:Festival Food and Drink Event

eat:Festivals will be hosting a food and drink festival in Cranbrook on Sunday 13 September 2026.

The festival will be happening in the heart of the town, on and surrounding the Tillhouse Road. eat:Festivals are a small social enterprise who have been delivering one day food and drink festivals in towns across the south-west for over 13 years. They are now accepting applications for all 2026 dates, including the Cranbrook one at www.eatfestivals.org/apply

A young singing sensation from Sidmouth will be at Otter Garden Centres in Ottery St Mary on November 27 to sign books he illustrated during illnesses and lockdowns.

James Mason-Carney will also be entertaining customers with renditions of popular songs and Christmas carols.

James hit the news last year when the children’s book that he illustrated was published to great acclaim. Written by his mum, Julie Claire-Carney, the book Tiggs and The Midnight Choir is based on James’s experiences as a chorister at Exeter Cathedral School.

Taylor Wimpey Exeter spent the start of November helping to support a month of celebrations across its region, with £930 donated to support the Exeter Hindu Cultural Centre's Diwali celebrations, and £500 to support the Double Locks Pub's renowned fireworks display.

Exeter's Diwali celebrations, which took place on the 6th November at St Matthew's Hall in Topsham, saw an evening of performances, dancing, food and laughter welcomed by all following last year's festival which took place in the midst of the pandemic.

Devon ready for winter

With temperatures tumbling this week, Devon is prepared and ready to cope with the challenges of winter on the county’s roads.

Road surface temperatures are forecast to drop below -2C in some parts of Devon tonight and gritters will be out on all of the county’s primary salting routes from 6pm this evening.

The County Council is starting the season with its gritting depots fully stocked with the usual amount of around 24,000 tonnes of salt.

Over the past seven years 8 significant improvements have been made to the rail infrastructure and facilities in the Exeter area, on the whole leading to better train services for the whole community.

Firstly, the introduction of newer rolling stock with the phasing out of the old Class 140 and 142 diesel units and replacement with Class 150/2s, 158s and 159s. These are now in regular use on the branch lines in and around the city.

Talented students from low-to-middle-income countries will study at the University of Exeter thanks to new Green Futures Scholarships.

The programme will develop a network of like-minded individuals who can share their knowledge and experiences to lead change from within their communities and beyond.
