Cranbrook to Host First eat:Festival Food and Drink Event

eat:Festivals will be hosting a food and drink festival in Cranbrook on Sunday 13 September 2026.

The festival will be happening in the heart of the town, on and surrounding the Tillhouse Road. eat:Festivals are a small social enterprise who have been delivering one day food and drink festivals in towns across the south-west for over 13 years. Over 80% of renters already rent burdened as cost of living set to increase

New data by flatshare site SpareRoom reveals the shocking amount of money being spent on rent every month, with over 80% of renters spending more than 30% of their take home pay on rent, and almost one in three (29%) handing over more than 50% of their pay. People spending more than 30% of their household income on rent are traditionally considered ‘rent burdened’, those who spend over 50% are considered ‘severely rent burdened’. Last year's Tour of Britain has been shortlisted as a finalist at the prestigious Sport Industry Awards.

The 17th edition of the modern Tour is nominated in the Event of the Year category of the awards.

It’s up against Wimbledon – The Championships 2021, the EFL Sky Bet Play Off Finals, The Hundred, and the BLAST Premier Fall Final.

South Western Railway to increase services as Omicron subsides

South Western Railway (SWR) today announced that it will be introducing a new timetable from Monday 21 February that will see train services return to pre-Omicron levels.

The move comes as improving staff availability means that SWR can increase the number of trains it runs without compromising reliability for customers. The uplift is timely as more people return to the railway following the government’s work from home instruction being lifted.

The Woodland Trust needs public’s help to hit a £2.5 million target to turn Devon site into a woodland haven for rare wildlife – 50 years on from its first.

The charity - celebrating its 50th year - is looking to go back to its roots and is seeking the public’s help as it raises £.2.5 million to create a new woodland in the backyard of where it was formed.

The RSPB in Devon are encouraging people to show themselves some love and care this Valentine’s Day by reconnecting with their local wildlife and greenspaces.

Exeter’s Pyramids leisure centre prepares to close after 80 years

Exeter’s Pyramids leisure centre has been praised as a “good old dame of the service” as it prepares to close.

The swimming pool on Heavitree Road will shut for good when the landmark new St Sidwell’s Point leisure centre opens in the spring – ending more than 80 years of service.

It opened in 1941 during the Second World War, costing £56,000 according to the Exeter Memories’ website. An Egyptian-themed makeover in the eighties then prompted a name change to The Pyramids.

Three Exeter researchers win Discovery Fellowships

Three University of Exeter researchers have been awarded prestigious Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) Discovery Fellowships.

Exeter retirement village residents raise nearly £7,000 for Hospiscare

Millbrook retirement village, in Exeter, has handed over a cheque for £6,677 to Hospiscare, after residents hosted a series of fundraisers throughout 2021.

Residents raised £3,338.97 in total by hosting a charity walk, quiz, dog show, coffee morning, craft show, a singing concert, Christmas raffle, and a patio clean. One resident, Jenny Skinner, aged 68, even took part in a skydive to raise vital funds for the Devon based charity.

The residents’ donations were matched by Inspired Villages, the later living operator behind Millbrook, doubling the total to £6,677.94...
