Childline launches mental health campaign aimed at boys

Childline has found boys are five times less likely to talk with the service’s trained counsellors about their mental health than girls, and even less likely to come to them when they have suicidal thoughts.

New statistics from the NSPCC-run service show in 2020/21 they carried out 31,899 counselling sessions with girls about mental health issues compared to 5,622 with boys.

When it came to counselling sessions about suicidal thoughts and feelings, they delivered 11,719 with girls but just 1,592 with boys.

New bridge installed at Marsh Barton rail station site

A new pedestrian and cycle bridge has been lifted into place as part of the development of Marsh Barton railway station .

The installation of the 16-metre span structure over the railway line, which took place in the early hours of Saturday (26 February) morning, is a major milestone in the project.

Devon County Council has been working closely with Network Rail and GWR to time the bridge lift to coincide with a pre-planned weekend closure of the line.

A new project is supporting businesses in Devon to employ people with disabilities.

“Ability not disability” has been co-designed by Learn Devon and Devon County Council’s Adult Social Care, and Employment, Economy and Skills teams working together with people with disabilities to improve employment opportunities within the county.

Software development company Rocketmakers have been crowned champions of the South West’s first region-wide corporate esports festival.

The Bath-based firm pipped 15 other organisations from across the South West to the top spot in a Rocket League tournament, with the Exeter Chiefs rugby team and the Met Office among those taking part.

Hundreds of people attended Exeter vigil for the people of Ukraine

A VIGIL for the people of Ukraine organised by Exeter City Council Leader Phil Bialyk and held in Bedford Square, Exeter, saw hundreds of people attend earlier today, Sunday February 27.

Cllr Bialyk, who has family in Ukraine, said he organised the "Exeter Stands with Ukraine" vigil on a personal basis as a non-political event to show solidarity with those facing a humanitarian crisis.
