Meet the Brilliant New Infant Librarians at Whipton Barton Federation

Whipton Barton Federation is pleased to introduce its newest team of Infant Librarians, Macie, Evie, Noah, and Maryam, who have already made a fantastic start in their new roles.

Over the past two weeks, these enthusiastic young pupils have been busy learning how to catalogue and organise books, navigate the non-fiction section, and bring new energy to the school library.

Their work goes beyond shelving books, they’ve begun refreshing displays, developing ideas to make the space more engaging, and helping to ensure the library remains a welcoming, inspiring environment...

Beach Rescue Club is handed keys to new hut

Exmouth Beach Rescue Club were officially handed the keys to their new lifeguard hut at Orcombe Point at the weekend.

On Sunday Councillor Tom Wright, EDDC’s Deputy Portfolio Holder for the Environment, handed over one of the former Council Lifeguard huts for the club to use during the summer season at Orcombe Point. The club has had to put quite a bit of work into making the hut usable again as it has been standing idle for several years.

Despite the work required to get it up to scratch, the Beach Rescue Club will find that the hut fulfils a very important role for them....

Owner of East Devon Training and Beach Safety Officer for East Devon District Council, Andy Phillips of Sidford, is entered in the Round Ireland Powerboat and RIB Endurance Challenge 2013 which is sponsored by Suzuki.

The Round Ireland Challenge has been organised by Powerboat and RIB magazine for Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) over 4m long and should take 10 days for the small flotilla to complete, weather and sea conditions permitting.

International author and speaker Robyn Steward told an audience in Exeter that companies would do better in business if they did more to encourage and support a diverse workforce that included more people living with Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.

Women in the pink as Race For Life raises thousands

More than 3,000 women took part in the Race For Life at Westpoint in Exeter on Sunday.

Mums, sisters, grannies and children joined in the fun, raising thousands of pounds for Cancer Research at the same time.

Race for Life is the UK’s biggest fight against cancer and the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK.

Since Race for Life started in 1994, an incredible six million participants have raised over £493million, more than any other UK event series raising money to fund cancer research.

Police issue CCTV images following theft of £13,000 cash in Devon

Police have issued CCTV images of two suspects following a theft of cash from the Golden Sands Holiday Park in Dawlish Warren. The offenders entered the premises via a door to the bar and then entered the office where they stole £13,000 in cash from a safe. One offender is described as being a white man in his early to mid twenties, approximately 5’10” in height, slight to medium build. He has dark hair which was covered with a grey baseball cap. A team of brave employees from the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel will be taking to the skies for charity next month. Five employees will skydive at Dunkeswell airport on 13th July to raise funds for Hospiscare, the hotel’s nominated charity of the year.

The hotel’s team have more sporty challenges in the pipeline to raise funds for the charity with two members of staff in training for the Great West Run in October and the hotel’s Senior Fitness Instructor training for 'Ride London' in August, a 100 mile cycle ride.
