The tickets have now been counted, and Devon County Show has officially confirmed an audited attendance of 106,000 visitors for 2026 — an uplift of 5,000 on last year’s record-breaking figure.

This year’s Show coincided with the late May half‑term break, a rare calendar alignment that contributed to an especially strong family turnout. While children go free on Saturday and therefore cannot be fully audited, the organisers witnessed a noticeably higher number of young visitors enjoying the attractions, activities and livestock displays.

Hospital gains good feedback after updating patient letters to make them clearer

Staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust have undertaken the mammoth task of re-writing more than 8,000 patient letters to make them more user-friendly.

Previously, many patients would read the first line of the letter with the specifics of the appointment but didn’t read beyond this. It took the three-person Central Support Team at the RD&E ten months to re-work the letter for all departments, making it read more simply and highlighting the key messages such as what to bring to the appointment. They did the work on top of their normal day jobs because they...

Mr Hart has warned that due to the scale of these cuts there could be ‘no sacred cows’ and “Anyone who thinks we can carry on providing the same level of services while making those sort of cuts is, frankly, living in cloud cuckoo land.”

Yesterday the Local Government Association which represents 373 councils in England and Wales, demanded that the Chancellor George Osborne allow for a period of financial stability before making any further cuts....

Bathing water quality across the South West is at its best for seven years.

It’s fair to say that #teamTED is going X Factor crazy right now. But who can blame us? Exeter has had its best ever representation in the competition in the form of self taught yodeler Barclay Beales, sultry siren Shelley Smith and teenage sweetheart/rocker Luke Friend.

On Friday I caught up with Luke to find out how he’s doing, and will do so again this week, but today I had the pleasure of chatting with the gorgeous Shelley Smith to see what she’s been up to since leaving the competition.
