
Councillor steps down from party after assault allegations
A Mid Devon District Councillor has stepped down from his party after allegations of assualt have emerged.
Cllr John Squire, who serves the Yeo Ward near Crediton is alleged to have committed the offenses at a Crediton Address in July earlier this year.
He has yet to be arrested or be formally charged but it has been confirmed that Squire has stepped down from the Conservative group.
A council spokesman said “Councillor John Squire has received a summons in relation to an alleged assault. This is being dealt with by the courts. He has tendered his resignation from the Conservative Group and will remain as in independent councillor until this matter is resolved.”
