The Exeter takes on London to Paris cycle for Macmillan Cancer Support

UK health and life insurer The Exeter has announced that seven of their colleagues are preparing to cycle 340 miles from London to Paris in June 2026, as part of a major fundraising effort for the company’s corporate charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team has already raised more than £23,000, with fundraising continuing ahead of the challenge. The ride reflects The Exeter’s ongoing commitment to supporting Macmillan’s work, which provides care, practical support and advocacy for people affected by cancer across the UK.

Fatal accident results in M5 Closure

The M5 Devon was closed yesterday following a fatal accident involving one vehicle.

The accident happened between junction 27 and 26 northbound shortly before 4pm.

A car is reported to have left the motorway and careered down an embankment, ending up in a field. The motorway was closed to enable collision investigators to examine the scene.

Vehicles were taken off the motorway at junction 27 and sent along the A38 to re-join the motorway at J26.

Thugs vandalise public toilets

Fire services were called to public toilets in Whipton Village Road on Saturday ( 21st December) after a fire was deliberately started.

Two fire engines from Exeter were mobilised to reports of a toilet block on fire on Whipton Village Road.

On arrival crews confirmed small fire in toilet block measuring 3m x 5m.

Crews used two breathing apparatus and 1 hose reel jet and ppv fan to extinguish the fire.

Police are aware of the incident, but at this moment in time there have been no arrests.

Re-routed coast path officially open

A re-routed section of the South West Coast Path at Seaton was officially opened on Thursday 19th December.

The original route of the path was damaged in the landslip at Old Beer Road during storms in July 2012. The road has been permanently closed after a geotechnical review found that there was a high risk of further failure and the coastpath was diverted.

Healthy turnout for gym voting event

There was a healthy turnout for a voting event held by Budleigh Salterton Town Council for residents to choose their new free-to-use outdoor gym.

The interest shown was impressive, with 139 residents from all age-groups coming along to vote at the late-night shopping event.

Residents got to vote on which one of three designs they wanted installed, the winner with 47% of all votes was Option C, a design from Proludic. The result now needs to be ratified by Budleigh Salterton Town Council and EDDC to release the available money.

Police Appeal after robbery in Axminster

Police are appealing for witnesses after a Co-op in Axminster was subject to robbery at around 9pm last night ( Saturday 21st December).

The Offender is described as being dressed in a grey hooded top and dark tracksuit trousers and may have been carrying a bottle of Vodka.

This male has committed the robbery holding a knife.

Cigarettes and a bottle of Vodka have been stolen.

*LV= cup Chiefs delighted by Local support for LV= Cup Final

Exeter Chiefs officials have spoken of their delight at the local support being shown for this season's LV= Cup Final, which is to be staged at Sandy Park in the New Year.

For the first time ever, the prestigious Anglo-Welsh competition is heading west for it's grand final, which will take place on Sunday, March 16 (3pm).

And whilst the finalists will not be known until nearer the fixture itself, it has not stopped supporters from across the region snapping up tickets at such an early stage.

Driver's ordeal sparks warning

A warning has been issued after a woman was flagged down in Devon by a man claiming to have run out of fuel who then demanded cash.

The woman was on the flyover at Whiddon Down when she was stopped.

The man, who was stood near a dark grey car, said he needed money to buy fuel and that his credit card wasn't working.

But when the woman handed over some cash he demanded £300 and an accomplice got out of the car.

The woman returned to her vehicle and drove off, shaken by the ordeal.

Exeter Chiefs may be gearing up for a busy festive period of fixtures, but on Thursday members of the first-team squad took a morning out to pay a special visit to the Bramble Children’s Unit at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.
