The Exeter takes on London to Paris cycle for Macmillan Cancer Support

UK health and life insurer The Exeter has announced that seven of their colleagues are preparing to cycle 340 miles from London to Paris in June 2026, as part of a major fundraising effort for the company’s corporate charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team has already raised more than £23,000, with fundraising continuing ahead of the challenge. The ride reflects The Exeter’s ongoing commitment to supporting Macmillan’s work, which provides care, practical support and advocacy for people affected by cancer across the UK.

A miserable return to work for some

The wet and windy weather that has been ever-present this festive break will be back again just in time for some of us returning to work.

Police investigating a spate of robberies in Axminster have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with one of them.

Three robberies have taken place at commercial business premises over the last two weeks.

Flybe plane had "near-miss" with bridge

A flight by Exeter based Airline, Flybe had a “near-miss” while landing earlier this year according to a report by the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB).

The Flybe plane was carrying more than 60 passengers when it came within 894ft (272.4m) of an obstacle thought to be the Runcorn Bridge while landing at John Lennon Airport in Liverpool.

The co-pilot had disengaged the aircraft’s auto-pilot and was tracking the bridge visually when the near-miss took place.

Devon County Council is re-organising the on-street parking service to reduce the costs of enforcement.

The County Council has been reviewing the structure of its Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE) over the past year in order to reduce the operating deficit in this part of the service.

Devon & Cornwall Police have arrested a 25-year-old man after reports that a wild deer was shot in the head with a crossbow.

The man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and has been bailed until 7 February 2014.

The man who was bailed from Charles Cross police station is helping police with their enquiries.

The deer was shot on Sunday 29th December 2013 in the Plymbridge area of Plymouth and is believed to be wounded and in need of treatment for its injuries.

Thousands attend Cathedral Christmas services

More than 22,000 people came to Christmas services and concerts at Exeter Cathedral over the Christmas period this year.

There were more people at every service this year in the run up to Christmas, adding up to a 13 per cent rise on last year's attendances.

On Christmas Day, 1,450 people came to services, and more than a thousand came to lunchtime carols in the week before Christmas. The Environment Agency is warning of further floods today issuing 5 flood warnings and 27 flood alerts across the South West as the severe wind and rain continue to affect the region.

Devon nursing team in charity bake-off

MEMBERS of the Northern, Eastern and Western Devon Clinical Commissioning Group’s nursing team have been baking for a good cause.

The Exeter-based team was inspired by the Great British Bake Off TV show to bake their favourite cup cakes, chocolate pudding and sponge, and helped raise money for the 1664 Challenge.

The 1664 Challenge aims to raise £500,000 for injured Royal Marines. The nursing team raised £200 for the charity.
