The Exeter takes on London to Paris cycle for Macmillan Cancer Support

UK health and life insurer The Exeter has announced that seven of their colleagues are preparing to cycle 340 miles from London to Paris in June 2026, as part of a major fundraising effort for the company’s corporate charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team has already raised more than £23,000, with fundraising continuing ahead of the challenge. The ride reflects The Exeter’s ongoing commitment to supporting Macmillan’s work, which provides care, practical support and advocacy for people affected by cancer across the UK.

A recruitment initiative at the Cullompton depot of Gregory Distribution could see up to 20 new drivers joining the business which will help to fill current vacancies and launch a new, flexible drivers pool.

New toilets set for Exmouth seafront

State of the art toilets are set to be built on Exmouth seafront following the go-ahead from planners last week.

In addition the new East Devon District Council toilets will be open all year round and include both disabled and baby changing facilities.

The existing toilets, that are costly to maintain and do not meet current British Standards, will be demolished this week. The new toilets will be constructed and open by Easter.

Two Arrested in Laundrette death investigation

Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a man found collapsed in a Laundrette on Well Street, which is being treated as unexplained.

A 38 year-old man form Exeter was arrested in suspicion of manslaughter and a 44 year-old man, also from Exeter, was arrested on suspicion of supplying a class A drug. Both men have been released on bail until February 27th while investigations continue.

Dangerous driving as forecasters issue ice warning

Forecasters have warned of dangerous driving on icy roads as the temperature falls below freezing.

The Met office has issued a Yellow warning for ice for today and Tuesday (14 January) which is expected to cause disruption to travel.

Forecasters have said that a combination of clear spells and wind will allow ice to form on the untreated road surfaces.

The ice is expected to effect the whole country coming in from the North of England.

Neil Parish MP impressed by Devon Freewheelers

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, visited the headquarters of emergency response couriers Devon Freewheelers on Friday 20th December 2013 to learn more about the charity and the service it provides.

Neil Parish was surprised to learn that the charity receives no funding from the Government, despite the fact that the out of hour’s courier service undertakes an average of 16 emergency call outs every day.

Biomass warms Dartmoor Visitors

Visitors to the National Park Visitor Centre in Princetown are now being kept warm by a new biomass boiler, burning Dartmoor wood.

The recently installed 180kW Herz biomass boiler at Dartmoor National Park Authority's High Moorland Office in Princetown provides heat and hot water for the Visitor Centre as well as the offices of the National Park Authority and Duchy of Cornwall. Lorry blaze in Honiton

Two appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised to a lorry blaze near the A35 outside of Honiton yesterday ( Saturday 12th January).

Crew were callled to the blaze, which took place near the BP Garage garage on the A35 outside of Honition, in the early hours of Saturday ( 12th January) morning

Upon arrival crews confirmed one artic tractor unit well alight, crews got to work using two hose reel jets and one compressed air foam branch.

Devon's X Factor golden boy, Luke Friend performed to a sell out crowd in The Exeter Daily Auditorium at The Exeter Phoenix last night. Nearly 500 of Luke's adoring fans, better known as his Friendies, came along to see him perform with some arriving at the venue as early as 11am.

Appeal for body found by Laundrette

The identity of a 52-year old man, believed to be homeless, who died shortly after being found unconscious in a laundrette has still not been confirmed.

Police officers were called to a popular laundrette in Well Street on Saturday 11th January at 12.20pm.

The man was alive when police attended the scene, but died later Saturday afternoon.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police today said that updates on this incident will be made available on The Devon and Cornwall Police website when more information comes to light.
