The Exeter takes on London to Paris cycle for Macmillan Cancer Support

UK health and life insurer The Exeter has announced that seven of their colleagues are preparing to cycle 340 miles from London to Paris in June 2026, as part of a major fundraising effort for the company’s corporate charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

The team has already raised more than £23,000, with fundraising continuing ahead of the challenge. The ride reflects The Exeter’s ongoing commitment to supporting Macmillan’s work, which provides care, practical support and advocacy for people affected by cancer across the UK.

Fire service called to Woodbury crash

Appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to an incident at Woodbury earlier today ( Sunday 2nd February).

Two appliances were mobilised one from Exmouth and Middlemoor following a report to the Fire Service Control Room of a road traffic collision with person trapped.

On arrival at the scene crews confirmed a road traffic collision involving one private car on the public highway with no persons trapped.

Crews made the scene safe.

Elderly woman rescued by Fire Service

An elderly woman has been rescued from a lift today by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

Appliances were called to the incident, which occured at 7.46 this morning ( Sunday 2nd February), in Exmouth.

The Fire Service received a call reporting persons stuck in a lift at Douglas Avenue, Exmouth

Two fire appliances from Exmouth attended.

Fire crews released one elderly female, unharmed, from the lift car using small tools.

Investigation begins after motorcycle fire

The Fire Service and the Police are investigating the cause of a motorcycle fire after attending the incident this morning ( Sunday 2nd February).

The incident, which occured at 1.02 this morning, took place in Barnstaple.

One fire appliance from Barnstaple attended.

Fire crews confirmed one motorcycle well alight and severely damaged by fire. The vehicle was extinguished by fire crews using one hose reel jet.

Emergency services called to car accident on M5

Appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue service were called to an accident on the M5 today ( Saturday 1st Febuary).

The incident, which took place on the M5 Junction 29 to A30, occured at 10.50am

Fire appliances from Middlemoor and Exmouth attended.

On arrival, crews confirmed a road traffic collision involving two vehicles with all persons free and clear of the vehicles.

Crews made the scene and vehicles safe.

Council consult on Youth Service cuts

Devon County Council is launching a public consultation on plans to move away from a ‘universal’ youth service.

This could see nearly £1 million and around 60 jobs cut from Devon’s youth services as well see the council pull out of 34 youth centres around the county.

The council argue that the new youth service will take on a more ‘targeted approach’ which would see a smaller staff of youth workers work with council partners for a focused service for the most vulnerable young people in the county.

Police appeal following Teignmouth burglary

Devon & Cornwall Police are appealing for information following a high-value burglary in Teignmouth.

The incident took place between Wednesday 15 January and Wednesday 29 January 2014 at a property on Second Avenue.

During the burglary, property worth a total of almost £7,000 was stolen. The haul included jewellery which was of sentimental value to the 65-year-old disabled victim.

A garden shed was also burnt to the ground.
