Warning notice at Wonford House Hospital

A warning notice has been issued to Devon Partnership NHS Trust after failing to complete improvements to quality of care at Coombehaven ward at Wonford House Hospital.

The warning notice was issued after inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found that patients on the ward were still not consistently involved in the preparation of their care plans or had regular access to their named nurses despite these concerns being raised by a previous inspection.

Time is running for business rate relief

Around 800 businesses across East Devon can still benefit from a scheme offering rate relief of up to £1,000 for the next two years. But time is running out to sign up to the scheme.

The initiative, adopted by East Devon District Council, is designed to give local retail businesses of a rateable value of less than £50,000 a chance to compete on a more level playing field with internet retailers.

Businesses to benefit include shops, post offices, restaurants, cafes, pubs and garden centres.

Tickets selling fast for Sausage & Cider Festival

Organisers of the inaugural Honiton Sausage & Cider Festival on May 3 are advising the public that tickets will not be available to purchase on the gate, such has been the response to online booking.

The festival, which is being held to raise money for emergency out-of-hours voluntary medical courier service Devon Freewheelers and other good causes, promises great entertainment with live music acts Sweet Black Angels, Ollie Bowern, Fools and Horses, Diamondogz plus headliners, The Wurzels.

Police launch armed robbery appeal

Police investigating an armed robbery at a jewellers’ shop in Paignton are appealing for information. At around 4.45pm on Tuesday 22 April, three people entered the House of Diamonds, Torquay Road, dressed in hooded tops and overalls. They were allegedly armed with a baseball bat and a knife. Witnesses managed to detain one of the offenders whilst another two made off and got into a waiting car. Daily Flybe flights from Exeter to London

Direct flights between London and Exeter are set to begin this October as part of a major expansion deal by locally-based airline Flybe. Three city-to-city flights will run from Exeter to London City Airport as part of a five year agreement with the capital airport. TALENTED artists, food producers and crafters are being invited to air their wares at a new outdoor market launched in Devon this summer.

The Local Produce Market will be held in the streets surrounding Plymouth City Market on the second Saturday of every month from May (starting May 10) to September.

Dartmoor gets £150k for flood repairs

Dartmoor National Park to receive a £150,000 of funding for urgent repairs following the winter storms and flooding, the government announced today. The funding will be used to repair the numerous footpaths and bridleways damaged in the storms and drainage infrastructure will be restored. The funding is the largest single share from a governmental pot of nearly £400,000 set aside for the national parks worst affected by the severe winter weather.
