In July EX2 Group was proud to support Building Greater Exeter’s Work Experience Week, an inspiring initiative aimed at introducing Year 10 students to careers in the built environment.

Missing Exeter man

Police are appealing for the public’s help in finding a man who has gone missing from Exeter. Matthew Rogers, 25, went missing from his home in the St Thomas area of the city on Monday 26 May. He is described as white, 6ft 2ins, of slim build, with short fair-coloured hair. He usually wears jeans, a casual top and black boots. Detective Constable Emily Sheppard, based in Exeter, said: “This is not the first time Matthew has gone missing however his family are very concerned about him. “He has not made any contact with them since Friday (30 May) and they don’t know where he has gone. “...

Ecover helps the South West Go Blue!

Events are taking place across Devon to mark Britain’s first ever Ecover Go Blue! weekend.

Almost 50 events have been organised across the country to celebrate our seas, shores and marine wildlife. Among them are a sponsored swim at in Brixham, a stand-up paddle board event in Sidmouth, a sea-themed story-reading at a primary school in Exmouth, and a schools science and water sports day in Plymouth.

Go Blue! is part of the 2014 Ecover Blue Mile programme and has captured the imagination of people right across the country.

Unexploded bomb found in Axminster

Update: The bomb disposal unit has made the device safe and the road has re-opened.

Six homes have been evacuted today after the discovery of an unexploded device in Axminster.

A Royal Navy bomb disposal team have been called to the scene after a 'historic German device' was discovered in a garden.

Police have set up a 20m cordon around the garden in Alexandra Road and evacuated homes in the surrounding area as a precaution .

Six properties were evacuated and the bomb disposal unit is on route to make the device safe....

Summer floods to become more frequent

Summer downpours and flash flooding are expected to become far more frequent across South England and Wales according to new research by the Exeter based Met Office and Newcastle University. The study, published in the Nature Climate Change, used a high-resolution model to predict the effects that climate change would have on UK’s summer floods. With Summer finally underway the Met Office has launched a brand new web page to help make the most of the holiday season. Sunday saw the official start of British Summer time. Summer in the meteorological calendar covers the duration of June, July and August, or by the astronomical calendar it begins around 21 June on a day referred to as the summer solstice.

The new pages allow visitors to find useful tips and information to make the most of the summer months, whatever the weather. Developed with a range of partners such as the RNLI, CancerResearch, VisitEngland and VisitScotland...

Firefighters called to derelict church blaze

Firefighters spent over an hour at a church in Brookway, Whipton today after reports the derelict building was on fire.

Reports of the fire, at The Old Church, came in at 3.37am with two appliances from Middlemoor and Danes Castle being deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival crews immediately asked for two more fire fighting appliances and an aerial appliance to assist in extinguishing the fire which was well alight.

The incident is believed to be deliberate and not, as reported earlier, caused by the use of hot metal cutting equipment.

County Council telephone numbers change

Telephone numbers to Devon County Council’s customer service centre are changing from today (Tuesday 2 June 2014).

Numbers currently using the prefix 0845 are changing to 0345, because telephone companies have to include 0345 numbers in their free minutes packages.

The existing 0845 numbers will remain in use for six months to allow people time to get used to the change.

The Council’s customer service centre is open Monday to Friday, from 8am to 8pm, and on Saturdays from 9pm to 1pm.

Thousands take part in Big Lunches across Devon

Thousands of people across Devon sat with their neighbours for the sixth annual Big Lunch yesterday (Sunday). They joined an estimated four million people across the UK.

The Big Lunch, which is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and led by the Eden Project, encourages people across the UK to have lunch with their neighbours once a year, for a few hours of community, friendship and fun. Organisers behind the initiative say that the simple act of chatting to neighbours can make a real difference in communities and can help tackle isolation.

Nightjars and stars at Trinity Hill

East Devon District Council’s Countryside team and staff from the Norman Lockyer Observatory in Sidmouth are joining forces in a ‘Nightjars and Stars’ walk at Trinity Hill Local Nature Reserve on Thursday 12 June and again on Tuesday 1 July between 9pm and 11pm.
