White Stuff Ice Cream Truck Tour heads for Exeter

To celebrate 40 years, White Stuff is hitting the road with a summer ice cream truck tour, which includes a day in Exeter.

Throughout this month they’ll be serving up free scoops along the south coast, bringing their signature style and community spirit to some of the UK’s favourite seaside destinations. Visitors will also be able to ‘Spin To Win’, with the chance to win some of the brand’s 40th Anniversary product.

The tour kicks off in St Ives, where White Stuff is teaming up with St Ives Surf School to offer locals free surf lessons and gear hire on Saturday 19 July....

Warning after burglars take pensioners' savings

Police are investigating after two elderly women living in neighbouring Devon streets had cash savings stolen from their homes. An 88-year-old woman was alone at her home on Sunday around 4.30pm when she discovered a man wandering in the hallway. When challenged he asked her whether she wanted any of her windows cleaned and he left when she said no. She later found several hundred pounds missing from her purse in the bedroom. Exeter respite centre to remain closed

An Exeter respite centre is to remain closed because Devon County Council cannot afford the refurbishments it needs.

Haldon View Respite Centre, which is one of two County Council-run respite centres in Exeter for people with learning disabilities, is a large period building, that needs among its extensive repairs a complete heating system overhaul including asbestos removal.

However, Pine Park Respite Centre in Honiton will reopen this September after serious flooding last December left the building totally unusable, Devon County Council has confirmed.

Council enforcers set to take on graffiti artists and dog fouling

A new street enforcement team to keep the city looking good by tackling dog fouling, dangerous dogs, litter and graffiti looks set to be introduced in Exeter.

The team would also get involved in the enforcement of the City Council's car parks, dealing with stray dogs and the removal of small illegal encampments from Council land, which can be associated with anti-social behaviour and drug taking.

A RECORD £26,510 has been raised by an Exeter Sainsbury’s store for Hospiscare.

Fundraising efforts over two years included: tin collections, car boots, plant sales, a fashion show, floral sales, book and Christmas card recycling, a Christmas hamper, Easter egg competition and a sky dive.

John Arnold, Hospiscare’s corporate relations manager, said: “Our partnership with Sainsbury’s Alphington store has been very successful and has raised a truly amazing amount.”

Devon adoption agency looking for families to adopt children with disabilities and special needs

Approximately 40 per cent of children waiting for an adoptive family have impairment or some form of special need or disability. Family for Me is a new project launched by local adoption agency Families for Children which hopes not only to raise awareness of the children who are waiting the longest but to specifically recruit adoptive families for these children. A study of 2,000 people into the nature of decision making and the thought processes behind them found men are twice as likely to make a decision ‘straight away’ than women.
