Part night street lighting roll-out continues

Around 630 streetlights in residential streets in Priory and St Leonard’s will be converted to part-night lighting from Monday 13 July.

The converted streetlights, previously on all-night, will be switched off from about 12:30am to 5:30am, before coming on again until dawn. The change is part of Devon County Council’s on-going programme to reduce costs and carbon emissions across the county.

Cup thrown from car smashes coach windscreen

Police are appealing for information after the windscreen of a coach, carrying children, was damaged by a cup thrown from a car near Exeter.

The Hamilton Gray coach was travelling on the A379 Dawlish Road, near Exminster, at 4.10pm on Wednesday 8 July when the cup was thrown from a small red vehicle that was also moving at the time.

The windscreen of the Volvo coach smashed, with glass showering the driver and passengers, who were children. No-one was injured as a result of the incident.

Creative space proposed for Quayside

The Bike Shed Theatre has announced it intends to establish a new creative venue in Exeter’s historic Quayside.

The proposal is for the Maclaines Warehouse, a Grade II listed building adjacent to Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre, to be transformed into a space which could attract new productions from across the globe, offer unrivalled artist development and create a vibrant social destination for food, drink and entertainment.

A Lord, a Nobel Prize winner, a BAFTA winning playwright and a European athletics gold medallist will be amongst those honoured at the University of Exeter’s summer graduation this year.

In total, 15 special guests will receive an Honorary Degree and the CSM Trust will be inducted into the College of Benefactors as part of the celebrations at the Streatham campus in Exeter and in Truro Cathedral for the Penryn Campus in Cornwall.

RMT strike: 'Mood is united'

Rail services are severely affected after last-minute talks to avert a 48-hour strike on First Great Western (FGW) services failed.

Wiltshire Police are appealing for information regarding the whereabouts of Phillip Minshall, aged 23, from Swindon.

Mr Minshall was last seen at his home address in Toothill on the morning of 30th June when he left to go into the town centre. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Mr Minshall, who is originally from the Manchester area, has been living with his girlfriend in Swindon for the past three months.
