New McDonald's opens in Exeter

A brand-new McDonald’s restaurant in Exeter opened on Wednesday 4th June.

Following significant investment from local Franchisee David Shawyer, the restaurant is open for dine-in, takeaway, Drive Thru, Click & Serve and McDelivery. Opening hours will be 6am – 11pm, seven days a week.

The new 104-seater restaurant has created around 132 new full and part-time jobs for the local community and features table service, self-ordering kiosks, a large outside patio area and a Drive Thru with Smart Digital Drive Thru menu boards.

Weddings theme for Zeal Monachorum Flower Festival

A flower festival and garden fete will be part of a weekend of events at St Peter’s Church in Zeal Monachorum from Friday 12th June to Sunday 14th June. The church will be open each day for the flower festival which have a theme of ‘weddings’. More than 10 wedding dresses will be displayed belonging to ladies who were married at St Peter’s with the floral displays around the church depicting the colours of the bouquets. Newly opened independent furnishings and giftware store, CASA, announces it has signed a two-year sponsorship deal with Topsham Rugby Club.

Mud walk event along the Exe

Dig out your wellies for a fact-finding mud walk along the Exe Estuary led by East Devon District Council’s Countryside Rangers on Saturday June 20.

You’ll discover all about the creatures that make their homes in and on the mud and, what’s more, the event is free and open to all.

As part of a series of national events celebrating the 800th Anniversary of King John attaching his seal to the Magna Carta, a replica of one of the country’s most important legal documents is on show in Exeter Cathedral this weekend.

Magna Carta was signed by King John on Monday 15th June 1215 at Runnymede in Surrey. It enshrines the rights, privileges and liberties of the clergy and the nobles, and placing limits on the power of the crown. Only four original versions are in existence, two at the British Library and one each at Salisbury and Lincoln Cathedrals.

Exeter commuting costs continue to climb

Exeter workers are battling with increasing commuting costs according to a survey of over 4,000 senior business people across the UK by the world’s largest workplace provider, Regus.

With train fares and petrol costs continuing to rise, the results show that more than a fifth (22%) pay out more than 5% of their salary on commuting.

The average proportion of pay spent on commuting by UK workers is now 4%, a rise from 3% in 2010.

Police hunt railway track vandals

British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for information following a series of incidents where objects deliberately placed on the railway were struck by trains. The incidents all took place in and around the village of Newton St Cyres in Devon. Sergeant David Mannion said: “Some time in the early hours of Tuesday, 5 May, four concrete troughing lids were deliberately placed on the line close to Newton St Cyres station.” The first train through the station at 5.50am hit the lids.
