Work begins on £2.2m mental health R&D facility

Work has commenced on a new, state-of-the-art research facility at Devon Partnership NHS Trust's (DPT) Wonford House site in Exeter. It marks a significant milestone in the organisation’s ambition to expand access to clinical research and improve health outcomes for communities across Devon.

The Monopoly: Exeter Edition will be launched in spectacular style in Exeter on Wednesday (14 October).

Thank You Exeter! More than 100 local businesses, schools and organisation took part in our Bring a £1 Day.

You may have seen our fundraising team at Princesshay, wearing our new logo t-shirts and standing by our giant big pink collecting hat, kindly made by Brightsea Printers.

Lots of people said hello and donated a £1 and some local businesses came by to pop their staff collection into our Hospiscare hat. Children were intrigued to peer into the hat. Radio Exe and singer Jimmy Ireland joined us during the day to liven up the event.

Attempted murder investigation in Crediton

Police are investigating an attempted murder in Crediton at the weekend after a man suffered life-threatening injuries.

A 35-year-old man, from Crediton, was allegedly attacked in an alleyway at The Burrowe between 12.30am and 1.15am on Saturday 10 October.

He suffered serious neck and facial injuries and was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and were taken into custody at Heavitree Road police station, Exeter.

Sitting for long periods not bad for health

New research from the University of Exeter and University College London has challenged claims that sitting for long periods increases the risk of an early death even if you are otherwise physically active.

The study, which is published in the International Journal of Epidemiology, followed more than 5,000 participants for 16 years (making it one of the longest follow-up studies in this area of research) and found that sitting, either at home or at work, is not associated with an increased risk of dying.

Applications are now open for groups in Devon to apply for grants of up to £3,000.

Grassroots Grants up to £500, Connection Grants up to £1,000 and Action Grants up to £3,000 are available for projects that can prove they will have a positive impact on vulnerable young people and will help cut crime, especially anti social behaviour, substance abuse or school absenteeism.

An Exeter School scientist spent one month on a Nuffield research placement at Exeter University gaining an insight into scientific research.

Upper Sixth Former Robbie Bell spent four weeks in Exeter University's Biophysics department; running a research project alongside a lab partner, working nine to five, five days a week.
